I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that one or the other of Benson/Willander will be there at 12th. But I like Yager so would be fine with him there.
Supposedly Vancouver is all over Willander so he's going at #11...and I'd love to get Benson at #12 if he is available...that would be such a coup to get either combination of:

Dvorsky/Benson or Leonard/Benson

That would be spectacular, I'm ok w/Dvorsk and/or Leonard with Yager, but obviously getting Benson at #12 would be other worldly.

The dream for me right now is Leonard at 6 and then find some way to get dvorsky too. With Leonard joining Keller, Guenther, doan, maccelli fedotov and dvorsky joining Hayton cooley and Geekie we have a good foundation at wing and center and then can focus on loading up on D next draft

Just did the draft in my sim league. Here's the first round. I was Arizona and very happy with my draft and 1st round, but I'm quite high on Stenberg and Dragicevic, though there would've been a lot of other good choices. One thing I noticed was that the 2nd round was still chalk full of great players and there even some good ones in the 3rd round IMO.

Funny story: Islanders won the lottery from 11th and the #2 pick was also a lottery win, worst two teams in standings were me and Jets and we both got pushed to 3 and 4. Jets still picked at 3 (changed to St. Louis before draft but kept assets) but I traded my pick for Ostlund, Bystedt, and 3 lesser assets I liked off the team.

How does he play the game? How many games have you seen him play? Just curious because teams haven't seen him play much the last year.
Unless I messed up on who we're talking about, I think lots of teams have seen Smith play. I've seen highlights but even there I get more opportunistic floater than two way scoring forward.

If you're referring to Michkov, no idea. He's lower on my list because Ive seen so little of him.

Edit: Yea I looked back at the post I quoted and highlighted the part about Smith, though that post was focused primarily on Michkov.

1-Bedard
2-Fantilli
3-Smith
4-Carlsson/Michkov
5-Michkov/Carlsson
6-Dvorsky vs Leonard at 6?

With Michkov off the board in this scenario, does that improve our ability to trade up from 12? It will be interesting to see how badly we want the prospect we pass on vs waiting until 12 to see who drops.

It possible we could make a move with Philly, to move up to 7.

Think it's less than a 2% chance of that happening though.

Vancouver is the biggest threat to take benson before 12th I think. So this is perfect. Benson >>> Willander.

There’s definitely a top 8 in this class and Benson is definitely it in it. Or at least it would be a surprise if the top 8 didn’t go in some order or another in the first 8 picks. Especially if there are no trades.

Rumors are that Vancouver is all in on Willander. I don’t personally believe Philly is thinking Benson. We know St Louis is NOT picking a winger. So that really only leaves Detroit as a threat to take Benson before he falls to 12th. They’d have to pick him over the likes of Wood and Honzek (who they’re rumored to like) and also Perreault (who spent the last two years playing in their backyard). And over center options like Danielson and Moore.

You also have to remember that they've got smallish players already with Raymond and Kasper, so I doubt whether they go with Benson and make it a triplet.

My guess is that they go Reinbacher, Wood or Honzek.

I think the chances are actually decent Benson is there at 12th. And with recent quotes from Plandowski about it being the size of the fight in the dog and not the size of the dog in the fight, I think we’re open to Benson at that spot.

My bad, I thought you were talking about Michkov. I would love Smith.

I heard Detroit really likes Oliver Moore..

Not a huge fan of what I have seen of Steven Ellis and his draft commentary from the Daily Faceoff, but ironically enough he put out his final mock today and has the Coyotes grabbing Dvorsky at 6 and Benson at 12. The draft conversation starts around 16:40 with some tidbits about Michkov if you're interested.

If Mickov is off the table when MTRL picks.. I would not be surprised if Smith falls to us... I not sure how I feel about that.. I would hope BA sticks to their list

SJS takes Michkov.
Ohhhh…so it’s

1. CHI Bedard
2. ANA Fantilli
3. CBJ Carlsson
4. SJS Michkov
5. MTL Leonard
6. ARI Smith

…hmmm…isn’t there a Smith family connection in MTL or something like that? Their GM was his coach and knows his family. Kids are friends. Something like that?

Would be amazing if Dr Vinny Boom Batz got Smith at 6th and I got Benson at 12th and we could continue arguing over who’s better for years on end!!!
