I think if Washington doesn’t move up for Michkov and he is not on the table ; .I think they go Benson

pure speculation on my part.. I am also thinking Philly doesn’t go D either.. I think they go Leonardo/ Dvorsky.
The way McKenzie’s article was written and the way unsourced NHL chatter has been when quoted or paraphrased in articles and on podcasts, I really get the sense it’s going to be those top 8 guys that go top 8. And Benson isn’t one of them. I think he would qualify as a “surprise” at 7th or 8th. But not at 9th.

I’ll say this; I believe the two MOST likely spots for Benson (if no trades) would be 9th to Detroit or 12th to Arizona.

Even if Philly takes whoever we don't out of Leonard/Dvorsky...no way Washington picks Benson, they'll go with something else.

Detroit I heard is all over Oliver Moore and we know Yzerman isn't going to take another small player in Benson when he already has Raymond & Kasper, and St. Louis is presumed to take what they feel is the best C prospect.

I'd be more worried about another team trading up to take Benson
Why are you calling Kasper a small player? He’s 6’1”, 190ish. Roughly the same size as Dvorsky.

agreed and Detroit apparently are all over Oliver Moore

Then he grew...he was sub 6'0'' in his draft year

One of the best stories in the lead up to this draft is how most of us thought there was no way we would be able to get Benson considering our staff's known preferences. @rt just may get his guy at #12. And even if we don't select him, the fact that we took him to dinner and have random unexpected quotes from our scouts about smaller players in this draft is going to make it exciting either way. Much respect to our scouts.

Anyone know when they actually start making picks? Coverage seems to start at 4pm pacific (this is so unbelievably stupid, and I hate the nhl so much) but anyone know when Chicago will actually pick Benson? Is it usually like 30 minutes of garbage filler or like 10 minutes of garbage filler?

There’s a path to Benson. And that exciting. We might not get him but there’s a solid chance.

It’s usually only 10 minutes or so of garbage filler. And I disagree with 4pm Pacific being unbelievably stupid. I don’t want to start watching a 4 hour event at 8 or 9 pm eastern.

Man. I think I’m doomed to miss this entirely.

I couldn’t make any flight work other than a 4:50
departure. Okay I’ll get Sling Orange with the Sports pack and DVR. With my re-signing promo I’m paying $26 to watch the draft. Extreme but fine. I’ll record and watch on the plan when I get wifi (for an other $6 lol)

Unfortunately since they double charged me back in January, my credit card requested a repayment. And my account is locked. 72 hours for billing to manually
Process my request. Haha.

So, unless there’s another way to get one day of ESPN and then one day of NHLN and to have them DVR’d, I literally have no way to watch this.

I was gonna pay $32 for this. Haha.

^ One of my favorite options for pick 38

^ this guy really impressed me down the stretch, in crunch time for the Pete’s. One of my hopes mid-late rounds.

Watching the plays that eventually ended up on this below reel is what really melted my heart on Benson:

He’s the best motor+skill combo I’ve ever seen on the CHL in all my years.

I’m so torn on who to take at 6

Leonard
Dvorsky
Michkov*
Smith

Benson has to be the pick at 12.

Any combo of the top 4 plus Benson and I’ll be thrilled.

I like Leonard the most because I like his style of play. He’s raw, physical and is the prototypical BA player and I like BA and how he leads.

I think Dvorsky is more skilled than Leonard though. Pure center and has decent size. Michkov would be the most talented player we have ever drafted and I don’t know much about Smith aside from him always being the top 5 of most lists.

Benson is tiny but very elusive. He can find you through rush hour traffic.

I need to deep dive this shit next year, this is addictive and I’ve spent maybe a total of 5 hours researching and watching film.

Weds can’t come soon enough.

We’ll have a shot at michkov at 6 and benson at 12 and we’ll pass on them both and we’ll all be disappointed

I think if michkov is gone. Real possibility we move up from 12th to 8th. Washington could add more draft picks this year and next year. Seems like a perfect partner who needs more picks for us to move up some. I guess chicago or philly could also.
