Very, very interesting draft this year...

Does a team in the top 4 gamble on Michkov?

What does Montreal do? Trade for Dubois? Trade down with Washington?

Where do the 3 NDTP linemates go? It seems crazy Gabe Perrault is ranked by some in the late teens.

................

Lets say the order goes as (most) expected:
Bedard
Fantilli
Carlsson
Smith

Michkov is still on the board. Montreal wants Leonard. Washington wants Michkov. Montreal knows Leonard wont make it to 8. They take Leonard.

Arizona is up. Washington still really wants Michkov and is worried Philly will take him. I can see Arizona flipping picks and grabbing Chesley (or??).

Philly grabs Dvorsky or Riedenbacher.

GM Armstrong drafts Moore.

Be careful with that. They’ve mindlessly lumped the 17s in with the 18s.

So if Michkov goes top 5 ... are we thinking we pick Dvorsky over Leonard?
( I will say I am slowly “warming” up to Dvorsky after listening to some scouts podcasts and watching the vids posted here last night)

If Michkov is there at 6 , Iikely Leonard is gone..so it’s a no brainer at that point to trade down to Washington, and then grab Dvorsky or Benson

Or my pipe dream of trading with St Louis ( if they want Michkov) for Neighbors and the 10th and one of the other Firsts..
I think we’ve got Leonard ahead of Dvorsky. I don’t think Leonard will make it to 6th. I definitely want Dvorsky over Reinbacher.

Regardless, the numbers of the guys at the top is still impressive.

I have faith in our scouting team that they will pick the BPA at 6.

I wonder if the latest news in Russia changes anything. Instability raises more concerns I'd think. Man, this draft is going to be interesting! I just cant help but flip flop constantly on taking Michkov lol.

Yeah, the ones at the top are 18s so definitely very impressive.

In case u think i was out of line.

What’s Mantha’s negative value? He’s got a backloaded deal paying him A TON of actual cash.

If Leonard is off the board, and BA has no intentions of drafting Benson, I'd make the deal. Philly drafts whoever they draft and we take one of Reinbacher or Dvorsky. I'm OK with that outcome so long as we get the Montreal deal, and the protection is no worse than top 7.

Dalibor Dvorsky’s production needs some context. First, he’s young for his draft year. He turned 18 last week. Second, his J20 Nationell production was at a higher rate this season (2.10) than Ohgren (1.93), Lekkerimaki (1.35), Ostlund (1.31) and Bystedt (1.23) last year. Heck, last year he was at 1.21 while being more than a full year younger.

Point is, he didn’t crush a professional men’s league. But when he plays against junior aged players he torches them.
Correct. His age was a huge factor to why I was high on him too.

This means likely maybe a little longer on the development path, but in three to four years, he could be a force.

I’d call Philly first and see what they’d be willing to do to move up one spot so Washington doesn’t jump them. That guarantees us our next guy if it is Dvorsky unless Washington’s offer is way better. I wouldn’t want the risk of Philly taking our next rated player if there is a big enough gap in terms of their projected value.

Okay... Just hear me out. By Wednesday Russia might be in even a bigger mess/civil war than they have been. Maybe just take Michkov? Maybe he won't want to stay there at all.

One spot move ups are extremely rare. For good reason. If they know we don’t want Michkov they can just wait. Only reason would be to block another trad e

Or he might be polishing a kalashnikov.

On the Athletic mock draft podcast from today they said that they compiled a consensus list of rankings which includes Pronman, Peters, Wheeler, McKenzie and Button. They said something very telling about Dvorsky’s placement in that list. He was 6th overall. And yet was not ranked as early as 6th on any one particular list. The wide variance among other players actually elevated him. He was so consistently ranked, even if later than 6th, that he ultimately became 6th. Which is awesome.
Reading the tea leaves from multiple places like that and I’m fully expecting to be taking Dvorsky next week, barring someone falling. Think we have Dvorsky over Reinbacher for sure

Moore is Cogliano...skates really fast, great edges, but he's got limited upside.

There are quite a few players that have far greater upside: Benson, Honzek, Wood, Perreault, Yager and Barlow
I see more Kesler
He's a fast skating two way center that can wins puck battles and sneaks in to the net to score goals, also good at the dot.. he just doesn't play like a pest the way Kelser did so I think in reality he will be somewhere between Cogs and Kesler

I still disagree with this narrative. Putting a limit on Moore's upside and disregarding him because he played with career ECHLers in NTDP the majority of the time is a dangerous proposition when he's looked good with Leonard and at the WJC with more skill to play with. He has all the tools and his skating isn't bad, plenty of players in the NHL that don't have super high IQ and even if he doesn't (because I think him not having high IQ is debatable, it's certainly not bad) no way you can compare him to guys like Barlow, Yager, Danielson and not have him pretty favorably compared.

Moore in my opinion has the worst IQ out of Benson/Barlow/Yager/Dvorsky/Danielson/Perreault/Wood/Honzek, so it's an easy "NO" for me anywhere inside the top 10. If he is pick #12, no problem, but certainly not pick #6 or pick #8 if we happen to trade w/Washington

Who would Philly take if the Coyotes moved to 8?
If the top 6 go as follows:

Bedard
Fantilli
Carlsson
Smith
Leonard
Michkov

then Philly I think takes Dvorsky (which is who I want if Leonard is off the board). I'd love to get Benson, but I don't know about having 4 sub 6' footers in the top 6, seems too small-ball for me.

Anyway, I think if we trade out of #6 to Washington, then Philly takes Dvorsky and then we have the choice between Benson or Reinbacher presumably, since they're both part of the players we took to dinner.
