Just take Michkov if he is there

He wants to play in the NHL. He comes in at the right time for this team to try and be competitive. You retain his rights even if he holds out. He is an elite player that has been compared to Bedard for years and has the potential to be a "save the franchise" type of talent. Don't over think it. BPA

I'd even still take Benson at 12 if he is still there. When a steal falls in your lap just take it. Worry about size later. Great players will always come on the market via trade.. just ask Vegas.. maximize the value of your draft pick with the BPA
Dude, your spot on. :thumbu:

Starting to see a few outlets buzzing about us and Dvorsky
On the Athletic mock draft podcast from today they said that they compiled a consensus list of rankings which includes Pronman, Peters, Wheeler, McKenzie and Button. They said something very telling about Dvorsky’s placement in that list. He was 6th overall. And yet was not ranked as early as 6th on any one particular list. The wide variance among other players actually elevated him. He was so consistently ranked, even if later than 6th, that he ultimately became 6th. Which is awesome.

The Sale/Nichushkin one is really bad. Same for ASP/Theodore and Leonard/Tuch.

I think Button is responsible for these. I’m terrible at them myself. I usually end up using four guys and saying “put them in a blender” and he’s kinda like that. Haha

Same podcast, I believe it was Scott Wheeler that said last year there were kids (plural) that told the Coyotes, through their agents, not to draft them. We would be naive to think it won’t happen this year. Keep that in mind when they select a particular player- whoever they select wants to play for the Coyotes.

Wow.

I'm actually shocked by this.

I thought kids said whatever they thought would get them picked earlier.

If multiple kids are snubbing AZ, I wonder how many are snubbing Winnipeg.

Yes he did. But I’m not sure how far I’m willing to buy into it. He said, prospects at the top of the draft. We know from the behind the scenes footage that Wright wanted us to pick him. We know that Cooley wanted us to pick him. I can’t imagine the Slovaks playing in Euro leagues cared enough. And Gauthier is from Arizona.

I’m not sure if someone was horsefeeding him, if he misspoke, if he exaggerated, or if he’s confused. But it doesn’t add up to me.

Gee. Get drafted by a team in Winnipeg or get drafted by a team in New York? Would anyone not pick New York? What’s different with this scenario?

I really dont see anything in Dvorsky that would make me want to pick him at 6..

There is just not that eye test that I see with others.

Since so many on our board seem to like him I assume it will be an ok pick..as you all likely have seen him more than me but I personally think more at 12 than 6

I just have this Dylan Strome vibe , which in this deep talented draft is not ideal. I know I am in the minority but man I would hate to miss on this pic.

Are you sure you mean Dylan Strome? They aren’t much alike in any way I can think of. Other than maybe you're just saying they are both high picks that disappoint?

His physical characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, scouting reports, and general regard around the draft remind me of Bo Horvat more than anything. Dvorsky is certainly a better prospect at the same age but Horvat has turned out quite well since. Generally, I think they’re similar.

I mean the vibe I felt when we knew we were drafting Strome … And the similar comments made by scouts that he has skating issues etc..

I know that my “spiders sense “ is not the be all to end all , which is a good thing I am not the GM :)

He doesn’t have skating issues. He’s not a “plus” skater but he’s not a “minus” skater. Think Bo Horvat.

Here’s a shift by shift. Keep in mind he’s 17 years old here playing in a men’s league. It’s not really a highlight package. Just a single game. You can see that he doesn’t have Taylor Hall separation speed, but he can get on his horse and giddyup back on defense. He breaks up some odd man’s with his back checking effort and shows some nice wheels.

At the World Junior Championships, Dvorsky was given the unenviable task of going head-to-head with the likes of Bedard of Team Canada, Coyotes prospect Logan Coolley of Team USA and 2022 Nashville Predators first-round pick Joakim Kemell of team Finland. Their respective lines weren't entirely shut down, which is extremely difficult to do, but they were contained to a combined two goals.

I don't believe this for a second.

Heard that, too. I don’t know how much water it holds seeing as that would be a tremendously juicy story for pretty much every reporter league-wide (especially those up North) and we’re just hearing about it now on a prospect podcast.

Makes me think about Dvorsky growing up splitting time between Slovakia and Switzerland and then leaving home to go to Sweden. Now signing with a very obscure SHL team and saying at the combine he’ll play wherever the NHL club that picks him tells him to play.

And also about Tom Wallinder who is a taking the craziest most non-traditional route; SHL -> NCAA, which is pretty much unheard of.

Makes me think about how these guys are willing to take a different path. They might be amenable to our circus. Maybe that’s part of the reason they got a dinner date with BA.

So if Michkov goes top 5 ... are we thinking we pick Dvorsky over Leonard?
( I will say I am slowly “warming” up to Dvorsky after listening to some scouts podcasts and watching the vids posted here last night)

If Michkov is there at 6 , Iikely Leonard is gone..so it’s a no brainer at that point to trade down to Washington, and then grab Dvorsky or Benson

Or my pipe dream of trading with St Louis ( if they want Michkov) for Neighbors and the 10th and one of the other Firsts..

I don’t think so. When BA mentioned the U-18’s…blocking shots with their face and scoring a big goals, sounds like Leonard was the guy. On the flip side, Dvo - premium position, size, hockey IQ.
