Scott Wheeler just said on the Athletic podcast that Arizona took Dvorsky, Reinbacher, Leonard, Willander, Benson, and Yager to dinners.

Wheeler said when he was writing he deep dive on Dvorsky, in doing his research, his AIK contacts said that the team that had been on Dvorsky the most all year was far and away “bar none” the Arizona Coyotes. And that plus the dinner they had with him makes it 50/50 they take Dvorsky. He believes they really, really like Dvorsky.

How would you feel about Dvorsky?

Personally, I feel MUCH better about the idea of us having Dvorsky as the Plan B to Leonard, rather than Reinbacher being our backup plan.

I there are also rumors that Philly wants Michkov. And Bob said yesterday he doesn’t think we do. Sets up a perfect scenario for a trade.

We want Leonard but Montreal is taking him. So now Michkov falls and we aren’t going to do that. So now Washington knows Michkov isn’t getting past Philly. And maybe we’re also taking calls from Detroit and St Louis.

I went on the Caps sub forum and proposed Michkov for 8+Fehervary and the majority agreed to it or where open to it.
What about wash 2024 top 5 protected 1st and 8ov for 6ov and a AZ 2024 2nd round pick

How would you feel about Dvorsky?
I have Dvorsky at 6. I’m interested

After digesting this, it would make me very happy to draft Dvorsky, even if at first glance he isn't as exciting as the players above him.

* Dvorsky was easily ranked as a top 5 pick last season and was highly touted. He kind of plateaued this year, but I think that could be partially due to the league he was in and the type of player he is.
* This would give us an embarrassment of riches down the middle. It gives us flexibility if Geekie doesn't work out, if McBain doesn't re-sign long term, or if we decide to move Hayton/Geekie for blueline help.
* Risers always get a ton of chatter this time of the daft cycle, but I loved Bob saying Dvorsky is in the "Super Six".

Dvorsky signed a new deal and is in the SHL until 25-26 I believe unless he has an out. Small wrinkle.

I think Leonard is what this team needs straight up but I'm not going to be mad if they take Dvo 6, especially if they can get another quality player like Benson or Danielson at 12. Even someone like Yager is a player you can feel good about having in the stable.

Drafting a floater with poor work ethic is just not going to be a thing with BA now or ever, so the draft feels more like "oo who do they like most?" rather than "oh god, who did they pick now?" for once.

Is Philly not likely to pick dvorsky if we move down to 8? Also what’s the likelihood of dvorsky still being there at 12? It definitely feels like michkov just isn’t in the plan at all. I like dvorsky but not as much as Leonard personally

Yeah good point about Philly. But after just trading Provorov they may have defense on their mind. Benson makes a ton of sense too. Either way Reinbacher at 8 + goodies from WSH is >>>>>> than Reinbacher at 6.

I don't think there would be any way Dvorsky makes it past a center needy team like DET. So doubt he is there at 12.

What are the positives and negatives of Dvo’s game that you have heard? Good- 200 foot center, plus shot, compete. Work on- Pace and low offensive output in season. Anything else notable?

I could see Benson still being on the board at 12. I’d say less than 50 percent chance, but still an okay chance.

Well, Cole Caufield went at 15. I think Benson could very well be that guy this year and drop due to the infatuation with height recently. We all know the yotes have been on him for some time.

his skating isn’t elite. It’s good enough, but he doesn’t have top end speed or acceleration for sure. I think that holds him back from being a legit #1 center.

Otherwise he’s got the frame, 200 foot game, great shot and solid vision. He’s been my pick for well over a year and all of this chatter that we are high on him gives me a mean stiffy

I think his foot speed has been the only major issue. I know some scouts arent worried about his skating and have noted improvements recently. I think he is a safe pick with some upside considering he is one of the youngest players in the draft. Seems like he was a top 5 player for such a long time and people are just nitpicking at this point. I would prefer Leonard but would still be happy with DVO (cant complain about a strong center).

People keep saying Reinbacher for them. But that’s the risk. They take Dvorsky and we get Reinbacher. But at 8th with another asset, that’s much more tolerable.

His new contract isn't a problem, thanks to the transfer agreement between leagues.

Well, it seems Leonard is going to Montreal, but there are several questions surrounding San Jose and who they will take and then will Washington move up to take Michkov due to him being linked to Philly.

Then the question on BA is whether he wants to lose Dvorsky by trading back, because I could see Philly pivoting to Dvorsky if they miss out on Michkov...which then leaves us with picking either Benson or Reinbacher I guess. I don't know if he will move back if we like Dvorsky.

So I see it going:
Bedard - Chicago
Fantilli - Anaheim (heard that Carlsson may be the pick, but I'm sticking w/Fantilli)
Carlsson - Columbus (absolutely will take the bigger C, over Smith)
Smith - San Jose
Leonard - Montreal
Dvorsky - Arizona
Michkov - Philadelphia

Then who knows who Washington takes and rumor mill has Vancouver selecting Willander, but if Reinbacher is still on the board, not so sure they just wouldn't take him over Willander, even though they love Swedes.

Just take Michkov if he is there

He wants to play in the NHL. He comes in at the right time for this team to try and be competitive. You retain his rights even if he holds out. He is an elite player that has been compared to Bedard for years and has the potential to be a "save the franchise" type of talent. Don't over think it. BPA

I'd even still take Benson at 12 if he is still there. When a steal falls in your lap just take it. Worry about size later. Great players will always come on the market via trade.. just ask Vegas.. maximize the value of your draft pick with the BPA

Dalibor Dvorsky’s production needs some context. First, he’s young for his draft year. He turned 18 last week. Second, his J20 Nationell production was at a higher rate this season (2.10) than Ohgren (1.93), Lekkerimaki (1.35), Ostlund (1.31) and Bystedt (1.23) last year. Heck, last year he was at 1.21 while being more than a full year younger.

Point is, he didn’t crush a professional men’s league. But when he plays against junior aged players he torches them.
