Even with bensons size?

The good part is is one of thems gonna be there
Yes. I have him 3rd. He’s possibly best combination of skill and motor I’ve ever seen in the CHL. He’s done something very impressive in nearly every shift I’ve watched. He’s elite defensively and a word class penalty killer. His creativity offensively is unreal. I believe he’s going to be a star player in the NHL.

I just remember watching Lisin being like Superman in the offensive zone and a road pylon everywhere else.
I wonder if Lisin could have played better or improved if he had a good coach... from what I heard and saw TGO was not a good coach at all...

My list says Smith but i’m partial to Dvorsky.
Same.

The combine interview would have to be stellar for me to feel good about picking Smith. He would have to say the right things about bringing more defensive effort and more overall hustle. If the character and commitment seem to check out then he's the obvious choice.

I like the idea of Leonard - mostly to compliment Cooley - but you have to go BPA that high in the draft. I feel comfortable with whomever the team picks at 6. Not enough viewings of anyone other than Benson in that range to really have an opinion.

I don't think so (and I was an Enver Lisin superfan for a couple of years). A couple of decades ago, I interviewed NASCAR legend Buck Baker, and he talked about when John Force, the NHRA driver, went to Baker's stock car racing school in North Carolina. His quote was, "That Force boy was really fast in a straight line, but he couldn't turn for shit." Lisin was hockey's version of that. On a breakaway, he was as much guaranteed money as you could have to score... but ask him to maneuver on the ice or show any sort of hockey sense outside of straight line speed, and he was pretty much lost.

Straight line, separation speed is a good thing to have. It helps. But it’s one thing that I think is often highly overrated by media scouts and fans. Pronman, for one, is completely obsessed by it. He gives superlative skaters “average” grades year after year because of it.

But I’m not sure it wins a whole lot of hockey games. Especially when it’s only really considered in these evaluations as an offensive tool. Outside of the most elite talents (like McDavid being the most obvious example) is a large % of offense generated on highlight reel break aways?

And I’m not talking about rush offense. Obviously a ton of offense is generated on the rush. I’m taking about “separation speed” which is “breakaway speed”. I don’t think breakaways own a major market share of total goals in the NHL.

After seeing Button's updated rankings is Reinbacher even an option at 12 anymore? If they go D @ 12 and Axel is there is he the choice over Reinbacher? What about the other Swedish D Button has rated ahead of Reinbacher.

Can someone sell me on Sale? Is anyone willing for Willander.... anyone dumbfounded that both are ranked ahead of Dvorsky and Leonard?

It's beginning to seem like picks 6-20 could go in any order

Don't let Button fool you...Willander won't go inside the top 20...and I'm hoping he's going to be there in the 2nd round with our pick...either Willander or Strbak

We already have our Axel in Soderstrom...don't need 2 sub-six footers on the right side and again, BA has already stated he likes trees on the back side, so I don't think that Axel is even going to be a thought on our draft board.

Button’s list has Reinbacher at 24, he’s saying in his opinion the scouts influencing Pronman and the scouts on McKenzie’s list are wrong. McKenzie has Reinbacher at 10, Pronman has him at 7.

Don’t worry about Button’s list, man. His whole thing is making the goofiest possible lists. They’re never close to reality. His opinions are interesting. And when he drops biggest from scouting sources, it’s really interesting. But he’s entertainment value only.

If you read Drance’s recent article where he interviews four anonymous NHL scouts, they all say Reinbacher is #1 among D but drafting him earlier than 10th is reaching for positional need. Which aligns with the McKenzie poll.

Is Dalibor Dvorsky’s risk profile the same as Barrett Hayton and Jesperi Kotkaniemi’s were in their draft year? Interesting question.
I think it’s a fair debate. I don’t think Hayton had nearly the buzz that Dvorsky has and i had Hayton probably higher than anyone on this board his draft year (i had him at 11).
