Prospect Info: 2023 Draft Thread (Yotes picking #6 & #12)

I’ve only seen what people are raving about when it comes to ASP in about two games. Of course I don’t watch league play. But from what I’ve seen (limited to tournaments) I’m not a fan. Of course I’ll defer to our scouts and I don’t have a big enough sample to have a real opinion. I just have a little bit of skepticism because of size, stats, and limited viewings all being a little bit suspect for me.

Conversely, I’ve seen quite a bit of Dragicevic and I’ve really never seen much of what his detractors criticize him for. I much prefer Dragicevic over what I’ve seen from ASP.

This is the problem with being A) Not being a scout and B) Not watching Euro leagues.

If I were Montreal or if Detroit or Chicago was picking 5th, I’d have no issues drafting Michkov.

But as the Coyotes? Kinda scary. I feel like he’s got to have a bad impression of the Coyotes from afar. Only the bad news and negative stuff ever gets national attention. It’s worrisome.

I could see them maybe doing that if they’re super, super high on Reinbacher. But I’d be surprised if a top five team moves out of the top five. Even if it’s just two spots.

finishing below the Coyotes with aging stars, They definitely need to stock up on prospects, and willing to throw in a 3rd. They might not be high on Carlsson, but it could go down as Bedard, Fantilli, Smith, Michkov, and then have the Habs going with someone not Carlsson. that may also be not likely, but I don't have to deal with accepting that reality atm.
 
Well, now we'll see if that BPA over need talk is more than just talk. We could really use talent in a lot of areas, but D stands out. Will BA have the fortitude to choose BPA like he said, or will he take Reinbacvher at 6?
 
BA will only pick Reinbacher at 6 if the scouts are unanimously telling him that he is a sure, dominant number 1D in the making. Otherwise it will be a forward considering the level of the forwards group available right there.

I think we will fix the D weakness through a mix of:

-> clever second round picks
-> next year 1st round
-> snatching some prospects already drafted that have somehow been slow developing (D takes longer as we all know) and that their teams might be willing to let go a bit too early and a bit too cheaply.
-> a slightly unexpected Schmaltz trade, if something comes knocking and BA does not want his contract lingering in the franchise.

Only to the extent that Reinbacher is not the 6th best prospect in the draft. Same being for his needs analysis v my eyeball test for needs. I think we need two first line D more than a center or forward. Not sure if BA agrees.

I'd lean Yager here, also happy with Barlow. But man... and I feel like I'm gonna get flamed for this... there's a part of me that kind of wants to go Simashev.

I'd be on the Simashev bandwagon if only he was a right-shot. 90% of teams are looking for a RD at any given time while only 10% of teams are looking for a LD.
One is scarce, one is abundant.

Hoping we find a team willing to swap a 24' 2nd for a 23' 2nd, or just use our 2nd round pick to nab Simashev. Showed some offensive upside in the MHL playoffs and already playing solid defense in the KHL at 17-18. Him and Lamoureux would be an overshadowing future tandem.

This is where trading Scmaltz to grab another 1st to take Simashev makes sense.
