I’d still rather have Dvorsky. And there’s a decent shot BA is talking about the pair of them. I guess just like McKenzie, the Yotes expect the top five will go top five, and just like McKenzie they figure the next two off the board are Dvorsky and Leonard. BA knows they’ll go with one or the other or a faller, but doesn’t know which, so is comfortable speaking in general terms about multiple players in that zone.

If I had Dvorsky and Leonard in mind, but was trying to speak about them in a vague, non-specific way, I’d probably say what BA said. Most people don’t follow prospects that closely. And most of those that do, don’t listen to PHNX. So it’s probably a safe space for BA to drop hints without worry.
For me it's between Dvorsky, Bensen, Leonard, and Reindbacher for #6. That's if Michkov is off the table. That's a hell of a list to choose from.

Here's a snapshot of F40 draft lists (including honorable F40 member Bob McKenzie) . Thank you for your time and effort you've all put into this.

It will be interesting to see your reactions to our picks on draft day.

Given the high profile scouting department assembled by BA, hopefully you'll either be thrilled to have your top choices validated, or look back and be grateful your choices were not selected.

I'll tack mine on here.
1. Bedard
2. Michkov
3. Fantilli
4. Carlsson
5. Smith
6. Leonard
7. Wood
8. Benson
9. Dvorsky
10. Reinbacher
11. Moore
12. Yager
13. Honzek
14. Barlow
15. Danielson
16. Sale

And we're going to get two of these guys. That's sick.

This article is an absolute gold mine of information. Unreal.

The unanimous answer to “who would you be hoping drops” is Zach Benson. They all love him, they all think his size might drop him.

Snapshot of one reply sounds like he’s been reading my posts:

They all think very highly of Dvorsky. Even talking about trading up no matter the cost. But his u18s let the secret out and they think he’s going top six:

None of them think there’s a defenseman worth a top ten pick. They all seem to think Reinbacher will be a reach and none of them like it.

One of them makes the same point I did about not reaching in ‘23 because ‘24 is so strong at defense:

Some high praise for Leonard:

^ there’s TONS of great intel in that article. So many nuggets from real NHL scouts.

Trades.

Remember that the McKenzie poll had him 7th and that his linemates were able to pile up points partially thanks to him creating the space by being the wrecking ball.

He makes me nervous at 6th, also. But it seems the consensus opinion is that he belongs right in that zone.

That is assuming that the trade is there. I know it is easy to justify by saying trades, but if a team has a player they don't want to give up, we wind up having to overpay or not get the return that we thought, like the way the Chychrun deal ended up.

If our goal is to use the draft to get talent to work our way into trade conversations, we are probably doing the draft wrong because we wouldn't trade a player or pick with increasing value, so we would wind up trading someone who wound up declining. Again, sounds like we aren't doing the draft well if trades become more valuable than players picked.

BA said it himself many times. You stack the best assets and deal with the fit later. He says it nearly every time there’s a mic in front of him.

Read somewhere about a trade down to Washington do they could pick Michkov. I’d do that if they offered next year’s first to trade down.

I just noticed your comment about the Chychrun trade. That was a very good return. 12th overall and two 2nds is really, really good.

If Michkov drops, and it’s because Dvorsky didn’t, and we are NOT taking Benson, I’d do 6th for 8th and 40th.

Nope. Price for Michkov is a first. Washington would be motivated.

Washington might have another top ten pick next season. They’re not paying that price. Especially if they know we don’t want Michkov (or he doesn’t want us).

Wonder if we could do 6+38 to DET for 9+18, though?

Then we pick 9th, 12th, and 18th.

If Michkov is still there at 12, we absolutely take him.

I don't think we take him at 6, though. Just my feeling.
I was thinking that as well at first .. .But man ... If he comes over at 21 years old . And then signs an ELC .. we get him pretty close to peak dirt cheap for 3 years. . I agree with others in the thread that said he doesn't make it past Washington.

I just think that BA and the scouts like a whole lot of players better than Michkov at 6, based on what they said they are looking for.

eew not sure how I feel about that . I think we should be able to make a play for Detroit's 18th without sacrificing the 6th..

This is based on Michkov being there at 6th but not being an option for us to select (because of reasons). And also that our target in that range (say Dvorsky) went earlier than expected, which allowed Michkov to drop.

Maloney always said BPA, as well :( Hopefully BA sticks to his guns.

Not much talk of the "other" dman who is showing up high on some mock drafts and even higher than Reinbacher on at least one.

He will - the only real question is whether Armstrong and the scouts agree with the cognoscenti of F40 that Matvei Michkov would really be the BPA if he drops to pick 6.
Or if they agree with our F40 members who have superior knowledge and understanding of Michkov and the other remaining prospects.

I’ve seen Michkov play exactly zero league games. And he’s been banned from the big tournaments because of politics crap. I know nothing about him behind seeing him as a 16 year old and reading stuff and watching clips.
