No more than any of the other shitty teams in the NHL. Anaheim DIDN'T tank? Lol.
the ducks just had an extremely shitty defense. they were icing zegras/terry/mctavish/henrique/strome/vatrano/fowler and gibson in net. that's a far better lineup than the crap the other tanking teams were icing

This shows how little you know about the Hawks. Debrincat is due big money, they got value while they could. Team seemed to sour on Dach and also got value when they felt they could. They went into the last draft with zero first-round picks and walked out with three. If anything, what they did is exactly what you do when you need to change organizational culture and build it back up.

Now they pick 1 + 19 this year, as well as 4 second-round picks. They also have two first-rounders in the next two drafts. Hawks will be fine and I'll take their version of a rebuild over yours.
Cool then trade Bedard after his ELC because he is "due for big money" you know how stupid this sounds lmao. There is a reason RFA status exists.

Name 1 team other team that has ever traded a 24 year old 40 goal scorer and 21 year old 3rd overall pick in the name of a "rebuild".

It is incredibly uncommon and the most blatant tank job since Buffalo did it to try and get McDavid. You dont trade those type of players when you are rebuilding.
That would be like Detroit trading Seider and Raymond to "rebuild".
There's an easy solution:

Get rid of the entry draft.

In an age where there is a salary cap and a rookie cap on top of that, why the need to have a draft since richer teams can't simply outbid all other teams.

Why would top prospects go to bottom dwelling teams? Playing time. Signing with the best team in the league, who are deep, isn't going to give a prospect much chance to get a roster spot nevermind a regular shift.

What's an advantage that is likely not anticipated by most people? By being able to choose where they want to go, prospects can make sure to go to a team that fits them and has a reputation for patience with their prospects and not putting undue pressure to perform immediately. Who knows how many players' career was ended due to utter destruction of their confidence.

What about cities that won't be popular choices for players? Tough shit. Find a way to make team desirable or move to another city

He's due big money when the Hawks are starting into a rebuild. Was that not clear enough for you? Would you pay a guy you could get assets for $9M when you're going nowhere?

If Debrincat was Bedard, they would have paid him. Alex isn't a guy you pay $9M at 26 years old to anchor a rebuilding club.

My apologies if this concept is lost on you. Once again, I'll currently side with what the Hawks are doing, as it worked and luckily netted them a generational prospect.

Your concept of not competing for 10+ years? yeah your team is trash for not giving Debrincat an 8 year deal as you can still compete within that window. Its not like they are using that money on anything worthwhile in the meantime if they don't "plan" on competing within 8 years anyway. I'm guessing they will start competing when Bedard is 26 then?

You say that like a joke but that's pretty much the appropriate time after a Cup Finals berth to give a franchise some new life after they have proven to be incapable of doing it themselves. I don't believe the premise but that's... not a great example.

The NHL changed the lottery rules because Edmonton kept getting the first pick. No way they wanted McDavid there.
