If we picked Dvorsky at 9 and Barlow (if he makes it) at 17, I would think that overall, we drafted the best we possibly could have.

If we can package a 2nd and next years bos 1st to get another 1st rounder (whether that is late 1st or top 20 - idk value wise where that would be) then we can try and get the ASP, Willander, Reinbacher, or another forward that is dropping like Perrault or someone similar to him.

I can see some teams in the 20-32 range that would be okay with trading back. Even if you have to trade bos 1st + one of this years 2nd + a third or fourth. I think it would be definitely worth it to have 3 great picks in this years 1st round.

Then hope to get Hrabel with our first 2nd rounder this year and hope Hrabel and Cossa can battle each other for the next few years to see who HIM is going to be. Either way, we could then trade one of them for a ransom (if both are equal in talent) and move on.

9 - Dvorsky
17 - Barlow
*20-32 - ASP/Danielsson/Perrault/Willander/Reinbacher

*(or top 20 with the picks trade obviously, depending on whatever value)

Now that is a great draft. I only add willander/reinbacher/ASP because their projected ranking has been all over the place, so at least one has to be available, no? We have the flexibility to try and hit a home run in round 1 of this years draft.

I absolutely want to get another first in between the two we have. Boston + a 2nd or all 3 of our 2nds, whatever.

Dvorsky, Wood, Willander
Benson, Danielson, Simashev
Leonard, Perrault, Barlow
Moore, Willander, Stenberg

etc... I want three

Arizona's 12 (they have 6 and 38)
Pittsburgh's 15th (they don't have another pick until 90)
Nashville's 14th (they have 24)

Those are probably the most mobile 1st round picks in the middle of the 1st round.

I like where your heads at.

How about we capitalize on vancouver's cap? 11OA and Myers (gets us a RD that is tall like the others and 1 yr left on contract) + 2.5 mil retention (that is half of his 5 mil signing bonus on 7/1) for bos 1st and one of those 2023 2nds? preferably the 3rd one.

Then we have 9, 11, 17. I think Vancouver's is the most gettable because they can't get anyone to trade with them, so cap dump myers that helps fill our need and we can still go out and get another RHD and flip myers at the trade deadline if needed for picks or whatever.

9 - Dvorsky/Leonard
11 - Dvorsky/Leonard/Reinbacher/ASP/Willander
17 - Barlow/Danielson

We win the draft!

I wouldn't even worry about retention. We don't need any this year. Next year is the squeeze. Plus I'd be tempted to flip him to Arizona after the bonus is paid to get them $6M in salary for $1M in cash.

I hear the Penguins need some grit to take one last kick at the can. Maybe they'll cough up 15 for Chiarot and a second rounder or two. :D

They need cap space more than anything...maybe that Athletic trade is more realistic. Take Granlund's contract off their hands, no retention, give them 41 and maybe another little sweetener and get that #14 pick. (The Athletic trade was #31 and taking Granlunds contract, Wings got #31 from another trade).

Would anyone do 41 and 43 for #14 and Granlund?

We wouldn't need to give them two picks if we're taking Granlund off their hands.

A #14 overall pick is nothing to scoff at. Think about how much we valued them as the Wings playoff streak came winding down. It would be like trading the pick that got us Larkin just to get a 2nd round pick and get rid of Abdelkader or Frans Nielson. We would have been up in arms as fans.

Calgary paid a 1st to be rid of $6M of Monahan. We'd be taking on two years of $5M. That cap space is also nothing to scoff at. They should be glad they're getting a very high 2nd back.

Late first and you could get excellent player and it will be much cheaper. Guys like D. But, Sawchyn and Musty could be huge steal of the draft, should be available Late first

I don’t know how legit the rumors are, but Vancouver’s 11OA is allegedly available in a cap-dumping deal. Id take on Myers and Boeser @ ~$5M in order to get the 11th, even if we’re throwing in one of our 40s. But having 9, 11, and 17 would be a boon to our prospect pool.

Here's a draft write up that I thought was pretty decent. This guy clearly spent some time watching this class and has some pretty good info/ write ups. And it's free to browse. I found it interesting that he has some pretty similar rankings to the Black Book for a decent amount of his top 32.

More Simashev smoke. From the hf Russian prospect post (a really good write up of the top Russians this year btw) had this tidbit.

"Maybe a bit of an interesting note that during the recent Russia U20 tournament some guys were offered to predict which team drafts them, Simashev named the Red Wings and Kantserov named the Penguins. Might be sort of an indicator of which teams showed interest so far."

Your list is one Bedard short.

Here's some Dvorsky highlights.

The things I like about him; heavy on the puck, strong protection skills, great shot, and very solid playmaking from his off-wing.
Concerns: Is too stationary in the offensive zone. Never seems to be hustling. Skating is pretty average. I still think he's a winger in the NHL.

A minor concern I have is that he didn't score top 25 in anything at the combine, which would make him the ONLY player ranked in the top 10 to not be top 25 in any testing category. That wouldn't bother me too much, but there were so many other top prospects from Sweden that scored higher.
