Does it seem like Dvorsky is picking up steam to be available at 9? 6' 1" 200 center is pretty good in your first draft year. He has good skills and abilities...what is he lacking?

NHL draft prospect rankings have him as the third best euro skater. I know not everyone likes nhl draft rankings, but being behind carlsson then michkov aint terrible.

IDK it kind of seems like Dvorsky, if available, is the best choice for us to take given his size and position
I've seen him go anywhere from 5th (if Michkov falls) to 15th in various mocks/rankings. He is my preferred target at 9.

Does nothing great, but also nothing bad. Good frame. Didn't score high on any of the physical stuff so there is room for improvement on that front. Hope he interviewed well (with us anyway).

Interesting. So he would definitely need to stay in a euro league if his physicals weren't great.

So, really, this means that him being 200 lbs at 6'1" may not be great, as he may have more fat than "expected" (for a lack of better words). Obviously that is easily fixable, but does he show the work ethic on the ice to suspect he could get that done?

Legitimately asking because IDK. I am trying to be more informed during this draft since it is supposed to be a great one and I only take interest in the draft because of the hope of trades everywhere lol.

At least this shows he has a shot.

His skating actually could make him winger, not so great

He wasn't bad with the physical testing. Just not top 10 in any categories. He's a 200' two-way guy, so effort isn't an issue. Probably keep him Sweden a year ala Kasper.

I’d be higher of Dvorsky if we didn’t already have Kasper/Rasmussen and to a lesser extent, Copp.

What I need more than anything is a what we don’t have - an offensive weapon to shoulder the responsibility for at least a lines worth of output. And that can very well come at the expense of defense, and workman like attitude, and team first play, whatever. We’ve got tons of those guys and I’m psyched about that but now I need a guy whose just flat out going to raise our offense because he’s here. That was supposed to be Vrana, and Mantha, and Zadina, etc.

So give me in order:
9) Benson
17) Something (Willander, ASP, Yager, Barlow, whatever)
41-43)Heidt

Ras is a winger, there is still a need for center imo. If Yzerman is trying to build a team where centers are match up monsters, then Dvorsky is exactly what the team needs. Dvorsky has offense in him, the shot is great, hard and accurate. Playmaking skills are underrated.

3 match up centers and massive defense is going to make sure that Detroit is hardest team to play against in the NHL, build for playoff hockey. Those centers and d-men will shutdown opposition teams best, and there will be enough skill on wings to score the necessary goals to win.

Dvorsky's junior stats with AIK this season:

17GP, 18 goals, 14 assists, 32 points

That's over a goal per game and almost 2PPG.

Add 13 points (and again over a goal per game) in 7GP at the U18s.

And some Allsvenskan U18 scoring numbers (Dvorsky had 0.37PPG):

Filip Forsberg - 0.40PPG
Elias Pettersson - 0.36PPG
Jesper Bratt - 0.35PPG
Mikael Backlund - 0.33PPG
William Karlsson - 0.29PPG

Some people seem to undervalue him based on what he did in Allsvenskan but I have no idea why. It's a difficult league and very rarely do 17 year olds put up big numbers there.

I'd be happy with Dvorsky..

Come out of rd 1 with Dvorsky and Honzek sounds great..

If a dman slides, likely not, package a couple of those 2nds and sneak back up and grab him = draft complete..

That was where I was last year with the decision between Savoie and Kasper, truthfully. I ultimately wanted to a more complete player in Kasper over the high end offensive play of Savoie for much of the same reason you're saying here but that is because it was so painful to see a total absence of any player who could fill that role on the team (closest being...Ras which was not ideal). After taken Kasper and signing Copp and recommitting to Larkin, this became less of an immediate need for me.

All of that is to say, Kasper is who I generally thought he was going to be and I'm extremely hopeful he is, as you said "a match up monster", but what became very apparent this last year watching the Wings is we just flat out didn't have enough offense. And not just goals, but sustained pressure in the offensive zone by guys who can really keep the puck in the zone, set up dangerous plays, etc. and ultimately finish the goal. Even with Ras as a winger (I agree, I don't think he's much of a Center but the point was made more to say he's a big body who plays physically, regardless of position), we still have Larkin/Kasper for at least the next eight years. What I don't see is a lot of scoring threat on the wings and not a lot in the pipeline. Dvorsky feels redundant to me given that the Top 6Cs spots are generally spoken for, and sure we could reinvest in it and play deep down the middle but stylistically, there's a ton of similarity with Kasper at this point and I'm more confident that that overall part of the Wings team has at the very least, been invested in if not outright addressed with other larger issues being more glaring in the next two years.

Could we build the team like you're suggesting? Totally. And it would be awesome but I like having various types of players up and down our roster so we can matchup better for longer runs and I just flat out don't see a major offensive force (i.e. 100pt player) on our roster at the moment and that's kind of where my head is at.

This wasn't meant as a shot against Dvorsky. He's an awesome prospect and I wouldn't be upset if we got him. Its just at this point, I would prefer making swings with Benson and Heidt.

I don't think Dvorsky is an offensive black hole by any stretch. But at the risk of oversimplifying this. Dvorsky is a guy who would be a 7-8 across the board: defense, passing, smarts, whatever. I know there was concerns around his speed and skating, but it looks good enough to me and he never looks like he's trailing the play despite playing against some speedy competition. He plays a great all-round game. At this point though I would prefer accepting some 6's or 5's in defensive, and physicality, etc. for a guy like Benson who looks like a 9-10 in shooting, offensive playmaking, passing, etc.

More of a preference and priority but I don't mean that I don't respect Dvorsky's game. But he feels like he's going to be more like Kasper (not a bad thing at all) which has lower offensive ceiling to me than a guy like Savoie.
