Sorry to break it to you but I think Toews starts with a 9.
Trade Girard and use his 5 mil to pay Toews on top of what he makes now. 5+4 is 9 million. Problem solved. Toews is one of the best d men in the league.

There are other aspects to this. Toews would be blocking Byram on the depth chart for the next 3-4 years. Is Byram comfortable playing 2nd pairing with no PP time? That would likely cost him a shitload of money.
Byram is nowhere near the defensman Toews is and may never get there. Avs cup window is realistically the next two years. If we lose Toews that window shuts after this season.

G will never be at the level that Toews is playing at right now. Choosing to keep G and/or Manson over Toews would essentially close our window. There’s just no way of utilizing the extra cap space gained from moving on from Toews to recoup what he provides for the team on the ice.

The cap situation will look horrible in 5 years anyway. Bite the bullet, pay Toews, and put your nuts on the table to contend for these next 2-3 years.
well Toews wasn't even an NHL player at Girard's age so

Yes they do. If I knew how to post a picture I would.
I saw somewhere they had Makar alone in a tier and then 3 more in.another tier and Toews in the 3rd tier so yes top 5

Cap space is expensive as f***

Signs Joseph to this contract just last summer and now might have to attach legit assets to dump the contract to re-sign one of the other players they need.

Dorion is a horrendous GM. Pay him to scout/draft, don't let him do anything else.

It's always entertaining watching bottom feeders/bubble feeders pay assets to get cap relief.

I think the Avs still like Annunen and want him starting for the Eagles rather than riding the pine for the Avs. I just hope they get someone cheap and don't put us further in cap hell.

Capfriendly indicates Drouin has played C. Assuming the best case scenario, is this something viable for the Avs?

Likely... but if RyJo doesn't succeed, odds of getting out of that full $4m without some sort of hit are pretty low. The buyout hit is 1.33m for 2 years. Moving him would likely require salary back, retention, or decent assets. I was listing guys who have higher cap hits where all of it could potentially be moved for room, not necessarily guys they'll move (IE Byram is very unlikely to get moved)

For some reason Ryjo's contract is the last thing I'm worried about. Move him to wing if needed to increase his production, and you've got a 4M top six wing. Which isn't a bad deal.

I'm not sure he's a 3C, but there are options to make that money useful for the rest of the contract.

Still think he's going to put up a solid 70 this year once Bednar pulls his head out of his ass and stops trying to put Nuke and Leky on the same line. That's so f***in stupid lol.
