Landy back, trade for DeBrusk at the deadline, Playoff lineup:

DeBrusk - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - RyJo - Mikko
Landy - Colton - Wood
LOC - Meyers - Cogs

With Drouin and Kovalenko as 1st injury replacements.

Would also likely need a 4C but IMO that's a forward group deep enough to win the cup again. Obviously still need a lot of things to go our way between now and April however for this to even be a possibility.
At least we finally get Landy on the third line where he has always belonged.:sarcasm:

If Landy comes back early in the playoffs, let’s say he’s good to go for the 1st game of the 1st round, all it will take is the 1st round for him to get his game back. Yeah he missed 2 years but it’s not like he’ll forget how to play hockey after playing for 11 years. He’ll be up the speed in the 2nd round. It’s like riding a bike. You will never forget how to ride a bike even if you haven’t done it for few years. You get back on it, maybe you’ll stumble a little fist couple of days, but then you’ll ride it as well as you done before
Of course that's assuming he is at 100% fitness.

Tatar would help the scoring and talent depth on the team. I wouldn't expect him to be a playoff guy, but certainly a guy who can help you hold water until the deadline. He's better than Drouin and LOC by a good margin at this stage.

Woah! Tatar skating with the Avs in Avs gear. If the Avs sign him the forward group looks much deeper.

Seems weird that they haven't announced a deal or anything. I can't imagine he's only on a PTO either. Dude is easily worth a contract.

I will be quite pleased if we did sign him though. Have said literally all summer that he made way too much sense for us given our depth issues. He would be a big boost to the regular season team and by the playoffs hopefully they have made the necessary additions so Tatar isn't needed any longer, at least not in a Top 6/9 role.

One year deal for Tatar. LOC shouldn’t be penciled into any top 9 projections anymore, that’s really all we can ask.

Everyone who said to have patience to add another forward was correct. Whether Drouin, RyJo, Tatar additions pan out is a different story, but I’m happy with the off-season now.

Drouin - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Lehkonen - Johansen - Nuke
Wood - Colton - Tatar
Cogliano - Myers - O'Connor

Swap Drouin/Tatar if the Halifax connection doesn't work out. Drop Rantanen down to the second line if they need help.

Their biggest weakness, one again, is 2C but at least the depth is back.

Not nearly as much of a weakness as it was last season, though. It won't take much to improve upon that JT gave at the position and he's already produced about as much as Newhook did as 2C with zero games played.

I definitely agree with that. Johanson should be better in that role than JT2C ever could be.

So with this signing, the fact that Kovalenko is essentially Kaprizov, and the fact that Landeskog is pretty much a lock to be back for playoffs and easily regain his previous level of play, the Avs will look decent come playoff time.

Landeskog Mackinnon Drouin
Nichushkin RyJo Rantanen
Lehkonen Colton Kovalenko
Wood Cogliano LOC
Tatar

Toews Makar
Byram Manson
Girard JJ

You even took into account how Tatar will be scratched by playoff time.
