MacFarland on Landeskog:

“He’s going to miss the regular season, and then I wouldn’t bet against Gabriel Landeskog in anything. If there’s somebody that’s going to deal with what he’s dealing with, with the right attitude and determination, it’s him. He’s our Viking.”

So a playoff return, perhaps? Maybe, maybe not.

“We’re hoping,” MacFarland said. “There’s still so much that needs to be gleaned in this so it’s hard to put a timeline on it.”
I think that is their hope, but it remains to be seen if that can happen. Reports at the time of surgery was 12-18 month recovery time. The playoffs would start about 10-11 months post surgery, as he didn't have his procedure till around May 10th of this year. IMO, you're looking closer at 2nd to 3rd round at the earliest, and probably more likely the start of the 24'-25' season.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he returns by the start of the playoffs this year, but given what we know about others that have had the same procedure, and the fact that they want him to return healthy, I hope they don't push it too much. Let him heal fully before he plays again.

If Pinto is up for a trade I hope the Avs are sniffing around. They have some history with Ottawa too.
I don’t think he is and if he is I don’t think we have the pieces to win that bidding war. Man that would be nice though. Drop RyJo down to 3C and move Colton to the wing.

Well that's lame. I was still hoping we could snag him cheap to help with the scoring during the season. But I guess that'll just leave us more cash for the TDL.
I think they are aiming for the waiver wire, those players are free unlike the TDL guys. Avs showed this summer that they like to use their 1st rd picks

They’re taking the right approach with Landeskog this year.

They’re preparing for the event he doesn’t return, but if he happen to come back, watch the f*** out.

Landy back, trade for DeBrusk at the deadline, Playoff lineup:

DeBrusk - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - RyJo - Mikko
Landy - Colton - Wood
LOC - Meyers - Cogs

With Drouin and Kovalenko as 1st injury replacements.

Would also likely need a 4C but IMO that's a forward group deep enough to win the cup again. Obviously still need a lot of things to go our way between now and April however for this to even be a possibility.

Gabriel Landeskog doesn’t take a back seat to either DeBrusk, or Lehkonen.

He’ll have not played in 2 years. Not a good idea to put him on the 1st line right away.

Pinto is a decent amount better than Newhook... and especially so if you are looking at them both as centers. Newhook proved he can't play center at a high or even replacement level. He's a wing or should be to get the most out of him. Stapled to the wing and in a top 6 role, I could see a 45-55 point season out of him... though I think 40 is more realistic. Pinto has shown he can play the position. Pinto needs to be more consistent. If he does that, he's probably going to be a 50 point guy this year. If the consistency doesn't round out, more like a 35-40 point guy as a 3C.

As for Pinto vs RyJo... I could easily see either playing out. If RyJo plays like last season (or worse), Pinto is already better and really getting to his sophomore year, he could improve. If RyJo plays like he did two seasons ago, Pinto likely doesn't ever have that play in his game. Even in the most ideal, I don't think he's a 70+ point guy.

If Landy comes back early in the playoffs, let’s say he’s good to go for the 1st game of the 1st round, all it will take is the 1st round for him to get his game back. Yeah he missed 2 years but it’s not like he’ll forget how to play hockey after playing for 11 years. He’ll be up the speed in the 2nd round. It’s like riding a bike. You will never forget how to ride a bike even if you haven’t done it for few years. You get back on it, maybe you’ll stumble a little fist couple of days, but then you’ll ride it as well as you done before

If Landy jumps right into the playoffs, he won’t be able to jump anymore at all

That just isn't true. It takes guys well over a month to get back to their highest level just off of a 4 month summer break.

Landy coming back after 2 years away would take the entire playoffs just to get back to like ~90%. And that's assuming he can even play to the level he was capable of before.

Kucherov missed an entire year, came back 1st game of the playoffs he didn’t miss a beat. It depends on an athlete. I think Landy will adjust well missing 2 years. His game is not based on speed and skill like MacKinnon. He can be his power forward self as long as everything goes well with his knee recovery
