When it comes down to it, I think Girard is mostly getting us futures(pick+prospect) and probably same with Manson. Can't really take salary back unless it's 2m or less.

You can take back ~$3m in salary if you run with a 21 man roster.

For what it's worth San Jose were recently rumoured to be open to taking on Tyler Myers from Vancouver for a price so there seems to be a willingness on their end to take on a cap dump at RHD. Presumably San Jose wouldn't be one of the 12 teams on Mansons NTC either given his California connections so that would probably be doable from that perspective too.

Maybe you could also involve Matt Benning too by swapping Manson and Benning and paying the premium to dump Manson. Benning is a solid 3RHD with a cheap $1.25m caphit and some term so he could help to cost-effectively fill the void at RHD that would be created by moving Manson.

Benning would be a decent pickup. Underrated depth player.

On a side note, it's a shame Ethan Bear is hurt and likely won't be back until December at the earliest. I've always felt he'd be a fantastic fit with the Avs.

Every highlight I've seen of Bear is him getting scorched. I must be missing something with him. Seems to get brought up a lot

There are a ton of highlight reels of Ryan Suter getting clowned in his Nashville/Minnesota prime. Hell, DGB once mused there are a whole host of old clips of guys getting past Ray Bourque. Now I’m not saying Bear is Bourque or even Suter but context is key.

Bear has only really played on one good team on his career and that was the Canes. Don’t know why he and Brind’Amour had such a falling out but IMO his underlying metrics, skating ability, and balanced game I think he’d fit well. Not a great addition, but waaaaay better in that #4-6 spot than effing Manson.

Why are we giving Manson away for nothing now?

But let me get this straight. We give Manson away for a mediocre 3rd pairing Dman and ADD pieces to the deal to get it done?

Last I checked we want to maybe improve our team instead of making it worse.

So do we still hate Johansen? Just trying to keep up with the board narrative.

How about leaning into the small Dman strategy and trading for Brännström for a cheap pick and rolling with the D group below?

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Byram - Brännström

Where’s bear playing? Cause I know a lot of teams who’d take Manson lol
He’s playing nowhere, as I posted earlier he’s hurt and won’t be ready until December at the earliest.

And the league grossly overvaluing big, physical defensemen is something that has been a staple of hockey as stadium hot cocoa that’s served hot enough to melt steel. That’s completely meaningless when evaluating them as actual players.

Didn’t Bear catch a bunch of grief in Edmonton for a PO goal a couple of years back? I don’t know if I agree with your point ever since Girard was taken out in the Blues PO game.

Yes, but Good Lord it was one goal. They also seem to think that if Connor McDavid suddenly showed up and became Patrice Bergeron that the Cups would start rolling in, so I don't give a damn what people or pundits in Edmonton think. I believe Bear departed the Oilers because of what he perceived to be lack of support from the organization following that, and I hope I'm not misquoting him but I think he also said some of the vitriol was at least in part racially-motivated, and I don't think he was wrong there.

Sorry, I don't know if I understand your second point with Girard. If you're saying Manson was a vital cog to the Avs' 2022 Cup run, I've no qualms with that whatsoever. Acquiring him was not the issue, overpaying him with a long-term deal was.

FTR I'm not pounding the table for the Avs to go out and get Ethan Bear, like I said he's out until around the midpoint of the season anyway, and the Avs don't have the cap room so it's a moot point. They gotta make do with what they have and so far they're doing just that.

Ahhkchtually, the Avs do have plenty of cap room if Francouz stays on LTIR. They could sign Bear for ~$1.5m and still have room for a 23 man roster.

I'd like to see cartwheels play a game before I hope for that lol.

It's a good thing he's getting lots of NHL coaching prior to that as well.
