Last I checked we still have Mackinnon, Makar, Rantanen, Nichushkin, Toews, Byram, Girard, Lehkonen, Colton, Tatar, Georgiev etc...

If we get anything positive at all out of Johansen and Drouin this team will be absolutely deadly to play against.

If we would have stayed healthy last year (Landeskog, Manson) and if Nichuskin wouldn't have gone awol we would have rolled through teams in the playoffs with Compher as a 2C.

This is a team game. We are still loaded at virtually every position. The lack of a 80 point 2C will not mean we will not have success.

Nuke and Manson both played in the Seattle series, not every game, but played. The lineup today is also unlikely to be fully healthy in the playoffs too.

I would argue the board runs optimistic.

For starters there's only like ~3-4 of us that are "negative" to begin with. And our level of pessimism is essentially simply acknowledging a number of facts universal to the NHL that aren't exclusive to the Avs in the first place, such as the age of regression, salary cap and depth issues, typical contender windows, etc.


I would say most people here are optimists that tend to ignore/overlook pretty hard facts in favor of the Avs and our future.

Did you not see what happened last year with Compher as 2C?

What happened in 2021 when Kadri got suspended?


Quite literally this very core group has years of evidenced failures when they don't have a legit 2C. And on the flip side the one year where they had a good 2C, they dominate the league and win the cup.


2C is one of the most important positions in hockey and yes, the success or failure of our very controversial 2C, will entirely determine the success or failure of this team. Not a hot take at all, just more facts based on mountains of evidence.

Tampa is absolutely not a threat right now.

To me they are, they should have beat Toronto last year but sometimes things happen. They have a lot to prove this year.

Hedman is still the best dman in the east, Kucherov is still elite as is Point and Stamkos has something still in the tank and to prove. They also have the best goalie and possibly the best coach in the East.
