What's really impressive with RyJo is his advanced stats are even worse than the eye test, even with limited ice time. You'd not think it's even possible but here we are.
As unfortunate as it is, I think CMac is reluctant to move whatever is necessary to fix this team.

The team CAN be fixed. The Avs have 1sts, Ritchie, Gulyayev, Olausson, Behrens, Foudy, etc along with Byram.

Problem is - like most GMs - MacFarland seems like a guy who is trying to worry about now and 5 years from now. That is death for a GM IMO.

He's a rookie, brand new GM. He sure doesn't feel like he got himself in a do or die situation.

I know he was afraid to lose CMac but Sakic left a few years too soon.

Pretty crazy how big a failure CMac is as a GM. Considering the team he inherited...just an unreal show of incompetence.

Wait...are we missing the playoffs this year? Just making sure we are all on the same page.

I think that’s a bit of a stretch. Has RyJo been a disaster, yea I would say so. Has CMac made other moves that suggest he’s a good GM? I believe so. Newhook for a first in a deep draft + Colton is a very good trade. Wood, Kiviranta, Drouin, Oloffson and Prosvetov have all been really strong transaction. Tatar hasn’t worked out, but a lot of fans were clambering for that very signing.

I really don’t think he’s done making moves this year. The first issue is getting the players we need to be our best, back to being our best..

I’m still mad at last year’s deadline
Lol all season long people kept talking about wait till the deadline wait till the deadline. Deadline came and went and Lars Eller was all they got lol. I remember how pissed people were. A few of us sat back and laughed because we knew they would do nothing. Pretty much threw that season away. Then the draft day and them holding onto both first round picks lol and relying on RyJo to be the 2C.

Playing him 27 minutes won’t help his pace.

I think CMac might be taking a bit too much heat here. Yeah the team has regressed and mistakes have been made most certainly. This situation was pretty clear to see happening… and now we are at a risk/reward stage where some of the risks haven’t panned out and they need to turn around.

I’m not saying he’s free from criticism, just that a typical conservative first year along with the situation that was coming up have lead to a pretty predictable outcome. He’s got a hell of a task to get this team back to the Cup, but it’s not impossible.

It’s no wonder Johansen can turn it on in the playoffs. He coasts during the regular season while everyone else logs added time covering for him.

Is the benefit of Johansen possibly being good in the playoffs worth it, if the cost is MacKinnon and Rantanen being gassed?

Speaking of not being on the same page, are we trying to win the cup or make the playoffs? Fans are judging this team as a cup contender, not being first in the weakest division in the NHL.

Avs being first in this division is like RyJo having 9 goals: it's not representative of their play.

It should be a Cup contender. Along with a weak division, it is pretty normal for star players to carry teams above their weight in the regular season, especially if you over play them like Bednar has been.

So do most teams have guys on the 3rd and 4th lines that can replace a top 10 player in the world? Just checking.
Way to take the comment out of context and twisting it.

We beat LA, Jersey, Vancouver, Dallas and Tampa already this year.

And now we are struggling a little with Lehkonen, Nichushkin, Girard and Cogliano out.

Who would have thought losing two top 6 forwards and a top 4 Dman would mean we haven't looked as strong as we could be?

You said we don't have any depth to replace top players. What does that mean then?

Teams simply don't have depth to replace a top 10 player in the salary cap world.

First, I didn’t say it. Second, the context is clearly the Avs have to over play the top line because the 2nd line is only good for 12 minutes. So to make up the ice time, the top guys are greeting 4-5 more and bottom 6 lines play 1-2 more.
