Rumor: 2023-24 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Part Deux

Right and I agree but because we watch Byram every single game - we see how well or how poorly he is playing every single time he's on the ice.

But that's my point - unless, you're telling me that you're also specifically watching every single game and minute that each of those other players (Hughes, Seider & Sanderson) are playing, it's not inconceivable to entertain that they're also prone to having bad stretches where they just aren't playing as well as they could be... but still putting up points on the scoreboard.

My belief is that for Byram to really reach his full potential, he'll need to be 'given the reigns' to a top PP unit so that he can gain the experience and confidence to run a PP. He is not going to be doing that for the Avs unless we are horribly unlucky with injuries... (hmrph...I guess he'll be on PP1 by mid-january )

I guess the hope is that he can someday become a Josh Morrissey type of player but what I saw his draft year was a Keith Yandle type of player and I still see a lot of that in his game today.
Every single game, no... I haven't done that with the Avs though either. In any given season though, I'll watch 30-40 games of each team. I've caught most (probably 55-60%) of Detroit and New Jersey's this season (and last). I watch quite a bit of hockey around the league and I personally see a pretty significant difference in levels of play between Byram and other young defensemen. He's a noticeable step back from the elite group and more with the group behind them.

If Byram needs that to reach his full potential, I don't think he ever will reach it on a good team then. The best teams around the league have guys simply more talented than Byram to run the top unit. This is where I think some of a disconnect is... Byram's offense is built on reads and risk, not a more traditional setup. Byram can probably get that role on a lower playoff team or a weak team, but a contending team should have a more impactful and talented guy to run the top unit.

Yeah the Yandle sort of stuff is the scary part. That doesn't mean Byram can't be a great player (he already is one), but this high risk offensive game with defensive lapses is painful to watch. Probably more so because when he's keyed in defensively and limiting his risks, you see how good he can actually be defensively. It isn't sexy, but if he just focused only there and developed to be elite defensively, I think he legitimately has elite shutdown ability in him. The desire to be the guy offensively and his lack of focus in space just keeps this from happening.

I'll be in the minority... I'd probably sign Perry. Adds nastiness, grit, draws penalties, and adds a good piece on the 2nd unit PP for greasy goals (that this team needs). Get him for the league min and hope Nuke and him don't become BFF.

Same, team has injuries and you play the game to win. Perry would be a monster on pp1 even.

In all seriousness...he would not be a bad addition for the postseason.

He'll get another shot, and frankly I think he should.

Yeah he's a perfect 4th line depth piece for the playoffs. He's a wormy shit, but he'd be our wormy shit.

Tartar or Drouin would end up stuffed in a locker somewhere every night so he could dress.

Bednar would never know why only one or the other was available because he doesn't talk to the trainers but once or twice a season.

Perry was on pace for 50+ pts this season...he's still the ultimate playoff pest.

People here laugh at the leadership thing but there's a reason why he has this reputation. Hawks' coach Richardson has witnessed it first hand.

Heck, Pierre Gervais, who has been in the Habs locker room for 35 years, wrote in his book last year that Perry was the greatest locker room leader he has ever seen. He said that it wasn't Shea Weber or Carey Price that led the team to their cup finals run in 2021, it was Corey Perry. He also took many young players under his wing off the ice that season.

I’m telling you, I do get joy when a villain lands here and I try to feel those strange feelings of rooting for them and maybe even liking them.

I would like to wait and see what happend first , but I'm at 100% with you on Perry. He's the guy that you hate when he's not on your team , but would love to have in your locker room .... Again depending of what happend a few weeks ago , but all 32 teams would love to have a guy like Perry on their roster , he's a born leader.

I'd take Perry on this team in a heartbeat.

If nothing else it would mean Drouin or Tatar are eating nachos.

We’ve had a lot of weird ones - Barnaby, SOB, Kasparaitis, Downie.

Oh I was THRILLED when Barnaby headed over--he was coming off (I think) some of his best career seasons in NY, back when he had to play top line minutes because their best players were Bobby Holik and a really wonky Eric Lindros. That piecemeal third line featuring him, Gratton, and Konowalchuk was something.

How is it remotely possible that Tatar only has 11 shots on goal in 21 games? I thought this guy was given for 20+ goals. What is going on with him?

I think Kasparaitis might be the player I was most excited about the team getting but then ultimately regretted the move. I don't know if the coaching staff neutered him or not but he was not physical here.

The KGB line was so fun to watch. It had a little bit of everything.

I sign f***ing Todd Bertuzzi if it helped the Avs win another cup.
