The Ducks are nowhere deep enough to have a sheltered PP specialist. Verbeek is on record saying both Mintyukov and Zellweger needed to break some juniors habits to play in the NHL.
Not to mention that he has the opportunity to develop other skills without real need of being sheltered in the AHL. I'd rather have a guy that can be average defensively and puts up a few less points than a guy that only develops offensively and may need to be sheltered his whole career.

It's always funny to me that people with the least belief in and respect for Olen Zellweger are Ducks fans on this forum.

It's astounding that people that lack knowledge always have absurd hot takes. Ignorant people gotta be iggy. Here's a couple of tidbits from our own GM to help enlighten the iggy.

From Ducks GM Verbeek on Zellweger and Mintyukov:

On defensive prospect and 2021 second-round pick Olen Zellweger
I just finished watching Olen. He's very fast. He can lead attack and can really come from behind and join the rush. He was very good the other night with his first pass, making quick plays. I think that he is a potential power play guy and he does a really good job of getting shots through. As I just mentioned with Pavel, these offensive guys I'm not worried about it because, while they can get away with this stuff in junior, they're smart enough and dedicated enough to really work at their game defensively. Olen's the same thing. He's going to have to put a lot more structure into his defensive game.

GM Verbeek at introducing San Diego Gulls new head coach McIlvane reiterating the young offensive defensemen are going to have to learn how to play defense.

If you didn't watch the recent rookie tourney, then you are continuing your iggyness, of course, because what transpired fully supported what our GM identified. It's very plausible that our GM and our scouts actually know what they're talking about.

Not to mention, we didn’t bring in Haag and lubush who aren’t waiver eligible in for nothing

Excuse me for being worried about how his small stature will have him play his position properly - to defend.

My other concern is that he’s fairly easy to push off the puck. Great skater and offensive threat, but I’m skeptical on his defensive abilities.

Lukáš Dostál, Anaheim Ducks

Anaheim’s third-round pick in 2018, Dostál looks ready for a much bigger role this season. The 23-year-old played 19 games in the NHL last season, spending much of the year stuck behind veteran backup Anthony Stolarz on the Ducks’ depth chart. With Stolarz leaving in free agency, Dostál could be in line for more starts this year.

Dostál’s numbers last season weren’t great, which is understandable behind the league’s worst defense. However, when compared to his goalie teammates, his statistics look much more impressive. He led the Ducks in save percentage, even ahead of John Gibson. Gibson turned 30 this offseason, and faced the second-most shots in the NHL last year. The Ducks should be looking to take a few starts off his plate, which should mean an opportunity for Dostál. Yes, Anaheim signed 36-year-old Alex Stalock this offseason, but he carries a cap hit of only $800,000, and Dostál’s talent should win out.

It seems less and less likely by the day that Gibson will be traded, but if that ends up happening, it could mean an even bigger breakout for the talented young Czech netminder.

Just do like a 52-30 split with Gibby-Dostal.
