Bored so I took a look at the depth chart on Capfriendly and here's how it's listed:

Henrique - Zegras - Terry
Vatrano - Strome - Killorn
Jones - McTavish - Silfverberg
McGinn - Carrick - Leason

Scratched: Regenda & Agozzino

Fowler - Drysdale
Hagg - Gudas
Vaakanainen - Lyubushkin

Scratched: White

Gibson
Stalock
That's how the site lists it? I'd definitely make some changes
Rico-McTavish-Terry
Vatrano-Z-Killorn
Jones-Carlsson-Strome
McGinn-Carrick- Silf

Fowler- Gudas
Vaak/Hagg-Drysdale
Lacombe-Lybushkin

I like that a lot. That second line could really be a handful for other teams with how feisty Vatrano and Z can be.

I don't think we are ready for McTavish/Z/Carlsson as our top 3 centers quite yet. I'd probably just make the 3rd line Carlsson-Strome-Jones at least to start the year (assuming Carlsson is in the NHL). I'd also put Groulx in at 4C, or maybe 4LW.

I was looking up some stats and found it a bit crazy that the last time we had a player who played most of the season and had over a point per game was Getzlaf in 2017-2018….it’s been a while.

Who’s the next one to do it? I’d probably say Zegras but a case could be made for a few others as well.

Either way, this teams desperately needs a lot more offense.

After watching the Killorn interview where he said Oatsie taught him to think of the next move once you've secured the puck, I believe Killorn will be a big bonus to our offense. We have added a 20+ goal scorer to the team.

Also, how much McTavish can improve with a proper summer after his rookie season (D+2), producing at a 0.54 ppg rate? Zegras went from 0.54 ppg in his first 24 NHL games (D+2) and the following season improved to 0.81 ppg.

We have the personnel to run a top-10 PP, but I don't think we have the coach to do it. If coach Brown can improve his scheme, then that is another way vastly improve our offense. Maybe having both LaCombe and Drysdale could also be a boon on the PP? Or if we can keep Fowler from playing on the PK unit.

When the TDL happened, we were forced to put Fowler on the PK unit and our PP suffered because of it as well as having traded out Rakell.

Fowler was part of the PK unit all season long.

I'm not really worried about scoring. I'm scared about our defense. We can win more games with a good defense and low scoring offense, but we don't often win games with more offense and no defense.

@Hockey Duckie i still don’t know why we didn’t get a new PP coach. Totally agree we have the roster to ice a Top 10 PP.

If the PP was even half decent last season, like around 20%, our guys could easily have another 10-15 points for those who got prime PP time.

I'm quite disappointed in Brown's PP implementation. With the Klingberg signing, I thought we found a replacement for Fowler's PP1 position, but nope. Losing Drysdale didn't help either, as he provided 12 PP points (all assists) in 2021-22.

The only player who improved on their production between the two seasons was McTavish. The only player to reproduce their PP production between the two seasons was Zegras.

I hope getting Drysdale back and the addition of Lacombe can help with the PP. In 2021-22, we had three defensemen in double digit PP points. Last year, we had only one.

IIRC, Silf was around 0.5ppg for the last quarter or so of the season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was on a third line with Carlsson, especially given the Swedish connection.

I also still hope to see Regenda at some point this season. Hopefully over Leason, who does nothing for me.

If Carlsson's in the NHL for third line wing duty, wouldn't he be better served just staying in the SHL and getting more experience and confidence as a 1C?

Or get sent to the AHL as a 1C. He'll be playing with a lot of new teammates at the rookie tourney as well as at training camp. The plus side about staying on NA ice is acclimating to the smaller rink as well as the smaller rink game play, speed, and physicality.
