There was a comment by ASF I think last year, or by Charlie actually - that said Comcast was basically scared to upset a lot of the old guard/alumni.

After the backlash from just missing Snider’s birthday, and how Camillo was demonized for seemingly trying to move things away a little bit from those men…

Comcast is the problem with the Flyers. Unfortunately I do think that’s a primary issue. They have deep pockets but a boat load of money without knowing how to properly spend it means nothing.

Snider died in 2016, and while I think he’s a direct reason for this country club bullshit, it’s been a free fall since.

Comcast isn’t willing to stand up to the old guard. Scott, and Hilferty grovel at the altar of the alumni.
This is the stuff I don't get.

Camillo was an absolute disaster. She was here for nearly 5 years, tried doing her own things as an outsider, and it was a terrible 5 years.

Things are lightyears better with Hilferty and Keith Jones.

Just wondering exactly what criteria are you using in order to determine that Valerie Camillo was a disaster?

Disaster how? She wasn't the GM or president of hockey ops. She's responsible for basically the only remotely successful things the team has done. The hockey side of the operation gave her less than nothing to work with.

So far Jones has done nothing but lie smugly and Hilferty continues to empower everyone who has ruined the team. How is that light-years better?

How wasn't she? The team sucked, attendance dropped, she turned off season ticket holders. Fan interest was at probably the lowest point in franchise history. Her commercials were terrible.

I mean on a superficial layer they are, but what’s been successful other than they don’t get blown out as much?

What’s this miraculous progression of the youngsters that no other NHL team experiences?

The Drysdale trade was a dud, and we know through their own words that Murray was front - and centre meddling in that one. They gave a 5th OA pick away.

The way they handled it was that of a scorned lover finding out their partner wanted a divorce.

I’ll give them full credit for the Hart situation, they handled that with class.

In a “rebuilding year” they moved one player. Sean Walker.

The big question every supporter of this “regime” seems to casually ignore is where is the team going to get its higher end talent from? It’s the biggest issue for years, yet they continue to side step it.

So I’ll ask you that question. Is it drafting in the middle of round one, and a mix of FA/trades?

They aren’t an organization that’s somehow looked at as a model of success. Trust me. They are more often laughed at outside of the Philly market than somehow heralded as a premier franchise.

This is hockey in 2024. Not the WWE. They are fighting a losing battle trying to keep the Flyer family, and Flyer culture relevant. It’s that of a single 50 year old man driving a convertible with AC/DC blaring.

The fan engagement is a million times better with Camillo and Scott gone and Hilferty and Jones in.

Hilferty and Jones put a tremendous effort into connecting with the fans.

And as far as the on-ice performance, it's been one season with them in charge and they have greatly exceeded expectations.

A team predicted by most to finish bottom-5 in the NHL, that loses their starting goaltender to a sex assault charge, trades arguably their best defenseman at the deadline, and still has a chance to make the playoffs with a game left in the season.

Camillo came in from the outside, hired people from the outside, seemed to intentionally want to erase the Flyers' traditions and identity, and it was a horrendous 5 season period that has gotten way better once the team got back to their roots.

So I just do not understand the notion that the franchise's problem is that they too stuck in the past. They tried getting away from their history and it was a disaster, and it's gotten a million times better in one season by getting back to the Snider mentality that had made the Flyers one of the most iconic franchises in team sports.

And to address your other points, Gauthier told them he wasn't going to sign. Somehow they kept that quiet and traded a 20-year-old 5th overall pick for a 22-year-old 6th overall pick and what should be an early 2nd rd pick.

That's making the best of a bad situation.

They also jettisoned Hayes, DeAngelo, and Provorov, so saying they only moved one player, Walker, seems disingenuous. They got Grans, a 2nd, and Walker for Provy (and taking Petersen), then turned Walker into a 1st rd pick. That seems pretty good and rebuilding-oriented to me.

I just do not understand how people claim the Flyers' problem is clinging to the past, when literally they tried getting away from their past, it was a disaster, and it's immediately gotten way better when they went back to their roots.

As for how they'll get high-end talent? How did Boston get Bergeron, Marchand, and Krejci?

She isn't responsible for the team sucking. The team sucking is responsible for attendance dropping. The team sucking is responsible for STHs bailing. The team sucking is why interest is minimal.

All of that is caused by the team being horrible, and that's the thing she had no control over. Wanna guess who did, though?

The simple fact of the matter is that Camillo did not/doesn't matter, but as an outsider and a woman she was an easy target for demonization and scapegoating. Normal Flyers stuff.
Wasn't she from Washington? Never met anyone I liked from that area.

So how does Macdonald only sign a 2 year elc? How exactly does that work?
I'm guessing that since it starts after he turns 22, that's the age basis. Otherwise it would be a 3-year deal for a 21 year old.

Age. He’s 22.

Not until May 11?

If she had a penis then I'm confident she'd have been a background figure with eternal tenure like a certain Hanrahan who will remain unnamed.

The level of factional scapegoating through team mouthpieces while she was actively with the team was unparalleled, and despite nothing being different those same mouthpieces are of course claiming everything is fixed and better now.

It was obviously infighting between the old guard and the uppity outside woman playing in the wrong hockeyman world. Watching the whole saga I became more convinced than ever that Flyers office culture is toxic beyond salvation.

And like with Jeff Carter, it's not even that I'm any kind of a fan of hers. Like I said, she's irrelevant. The processes on display, though, are relevant.

She pissed off the Snider family, pissed off season ticket holders, tried erasing team traditions like Kate Smith and the double logos at center ice, had no understanding of team history and hired people who also had no understanding of team history or the city of Philly. The loss of fan interest during her 5 seasons was not nearly solely because of the team's record.

She was a corporate stooge.

Fan engagement is a million times better now. Most fans are excited again. Because the people in charge know the Flyers, know the city, and know history and team identity are important.

They moved 2 of them because the coach wanted them gone. The other because he asked out. Otherwise would have started the season on the Flyers. That isnt rebuilding to me.

Grans is fading suspect at this point. Hell the GM never even saw him play. Didn't know anything about him. Should have got more for taking 2 years of Cal.

The co/GM is doing the same thing the 2 before him did. No real plan, hope on a lot luck, and pray. They refuse to take a direct direction.

What have the Flyers shown in their draft history to draft a player like the 3 you mention above?

Fans were engaged until the 8 game losing streak tanked the playoff push.... Sounds like the product on the ice had the STH base bought in then when the shit hit the fan they soured,

You've listed a load of irrelevant nonsense nobody gives a shit about. The Sniders are irrelevant. Hilferty is a corporate stooge! At the end of the day, the average sane sports fan cares about the team winning. That's it. All the rest of it? Forgotten in no time, so long as the team is winning.

Knowing the team identity and fetishizing it is why this team is so shitty. It is why the team will remain shitty. They aren't even stuck in the past, they're stuck in a fictionalized version of the past.

Ahh, bad marketing and commercials are why this team sucks, got it.

Guess the poor drafting, lack of talent development, pointless FA signings, the stunningly inept powerplay and dinosaur coaching has nothing to do with it.
