As is blatantly obvious, they need a 1C, which in a couple of years would represent a decent top 9.

Farabee - 1C - Michkov
Tippett - Frost - Konecny
Foerster/Cates - Couturier - Brink
Anyone but Deslauriers - Poehling - Lycksell

That, of course, depends on several things, the biggest of which is when Michkov comes over, but also whether Couturier can bounce back and regain 2C form.

Similarly, their top 4 D looks somewhat promising if they can bring in a 1D, although another 3 years of now injury-plagued Ristolainen is an anchor.

1D - Sanheim
York - Drysdale
Zamula/Seeler/Andrae - Attard/Ristolainen

So all they have to do for a competitive line-up is fill the two most difficult positions with mid-level picks. No problem.
Thankfully, the team's defenceman evaluation is top notch and should make it easy to get that 1D

Evaluate who? Rizzo ? Desnoyer? We're getting pretty much the same roster back .
Sadly, this is pretty much the blueprint going fwd. Like many have correctly "analyzed" here, the flyers only need to find a 1G, a 1D, a 1C, preferably a 2D and 2C as well, and then just surround them with some good talent to become a legitmate cup contender. Taking notes there, Danny?

On defense I can live with Sanheim/York; Seeler/Drysdale; Zamula/Attard and whoever for the seventh. IMO, Risto is with Ellis in the land of the dead. LTIR fodder.
The crying need is up front for a top center. Signing Lindholm 6/$9 fills a hole but it's not a pretty way to do it. Otherwise it moving out Farabee, TK or Tippett plus for a center. That's ugly as well but something like this has to be done. Can't play hockey with a hole in the middle of the rink.
The Dinos, Torts and his staff must go and so must Lappy. Usually a fish rots from the bottom up but with the Flyers the stink is bad throughout. Need to rebuild the base for development. LHV needs to be cleaned out as well for that to happen. These guys were imposed on Briere, Hilferty and Jones. I'd give them a chance to bring in their own people to see what they can do.
After blowing this season the way that they have the organization is up against the wall. This was the year to evaluate and suck. Do that next year and the fan base won't tolerate it. Too many bad seasons in a row make a club irrelevant in town. The Phillies dominate spring into summer. The Eagles from late summer through most of winter. Basketball with the Sixers and big Five can take over the rest of the winter to spring. The Flyers can become quickly a forgotten entity in town. It's time to pay the piper for past sins.

The flyers and their rebuild reminds me of the ”today was the day Trump finally became president” meme

Thanks for your reply, renberg. I'll agree that 1C is the more pressing need but York Sanheim is not a long-term answer for the top pair. Pushing them all down one spot is a better alignment.
Agreed with the rest of your post.

Had my work fantasy “championship week” yesterday.

A hell of a comeback thanks to Oettinger vs Georgiev.

Final result? 7-7 tie, that I lost the tiebreaker.

One more SOG, just one - and I’d have taken the league.

Heartbreak. Pure heartbreak.

Adding a 1C and 1D to this current lineup likely makes them a mid level playoff team. Having Sanheim York as your 2 pair and Couts as your 2C means you have a very strong team. Maybe a 1D can play with Drysdale or carry a guy like Bonk.

They don’t have any top picks this year but I could see some in the future. This year it’s about drafting for ceilings. They have plenty of middle 6 players.

I believe that Sanheim can be a strong #2 (poop jokes now accepted), particularly as he can play either the right or left. I don't (yet) see Drysdale as handling top-pairing minutes, and a strong D group would have him and York on the second pairing.

next year really should be what this year should have been..an evaluation year

I think that's kind of what they did this year.

They removed a top level defenseman (Provy), 1/2 C on last year's team (Hayes), DeAngelo, JVR.

I'm guessing they had an inkling that Hart was involved in the WJ grossness, hence pre-emptively signing Ersson to a 2 year contract.

So it makes sense to see how the rest of the pieces perform once you remove some of "top" level players on last year's squad.

I'm sure they also had a sense of Couturier and Atkinson's timetables for return, so that was important to evaluate in-season as well.

Now we know. Goaltending is not good enough. The center depth is weak and there is no 1C in the system (unless Michkov becomes one). The defense played well as a six-man unit, but there really isn't a clear cut #1 on the team or in the system.

Some of that was already known, I'm sure. But also they got to see how the actual team on the ice performed.

I would hate to trade TK because he's like the only player that has swagger and talent on this team. But I would understand moving him as well.

My guess is they don't move him.

My guess is that TK gets a fat contract extension.

Yea I have been underwhelmed with Drysdale save his first game and his most recent games. I think he needs drive to the net more. He doesn’t seem to have shot that’s going to result in much. He also had nice passing that I’d like to see more of. The Flyers have some master plan with him so we will see.

Yeah. He’s definitely raw. Ducks fans already complaining about Mintyukov and Zelleweger struggling - I know people hate to believe it, but there is truth to developing culture, habits and a constant improvement attitude.

Some teams have a player who does this innately - Crosby, McKinnon, so the team follows. Some teams have coaches who extract it - Boston, Vegas.

But you need the base still - I think Flyers have done a good job of extracting - Jamie has more raw tools than any D-man, so it will be interesting to see how he develops.

The rest of the team they’ve pulled out what they can - and it’s obvious there isn’t enough of a base.

I think the Flyers left TK and Laughts to see if they can make it - even if it wasn’t a goal - failing now, I think they are gone this summer.
