Torts did that all by himself by all accounts. Torts just decided one day to everyone's surprise that it was time to name a captain.

JFC, in a way that’s even worse. Just more of his childish mind games. Does this ballbag actually think scratching a player like Couts will have a beneficial effect on the team? Is he really that stupid?

Never mind, I know the answer to the last question. It’s truly sad that his horse didn’t kick him much, much harder.

Came here to post what you posed as well. It's certainly a thing to name someone a captain and then only a month later play mind games with him/healthy scratch him.

The Flyers put the FU in dsyfunctional.

Torts did that all by himself by all accounts. Torts just decided one day to everyone's surprise that it was time to name a captain.

He wanted to healthy scratch Coots a month ago in order to get the team's attention, but he thought it would make a bigger impact if he made him captain first.

This is what I am thinking. They didn’t even try to manage his minutes earlier in the season and now he’s getting worn down. I don’t recall too many maintenance days earlier in the season

To me, I think it is the classic old-school coach method... and one Torts has said he likes:

"when things are really bad make yourself the enemy to make the locker-room come together"

And scratching Couts is probably the quickest way to do that knowing how he is perceived in the room.

If he does healthy scratch him, that has to be an unofficial NHL record for shortest time to being named captain to being a healthy scratch.

I wouldn’t subject the kid to playing behind this train wreck of a D. Let Sandstrom play every game once they’re eliminated and get the highest pick possible.
