Am I missing something here? That's Colby talking about a list, not Frank. I'm positive he has Flyers sources, but coming from a guy once employed by the time adds some grain size to my personal salt. I'm going to guess that he had a list of teams like Winnipeg he wouldn't sign with rather than a handful of teams where he would accept a trade. Because he said yes to Anaheim. This wasn't a guy like Adam Fox who killed his own trade market by telling everyone he was signing with the Rangers, which is the point of the discussion.

Anyway, let's get to the most important part of this clip. Colby living in Villanova is the least surprising thing I've ever heard. Not a city school in any way. No arguments.
tbf to Colby, that is where he grew up

Frank mentioned a list, too. I don't know if he meant a literal list, but he said there were 18-20 teams that were sort of on the list of teams Cutter would be willing to sign with. The others didn't even engage since they were sure he wouldn't go there.

But again, I don't know if that's what the OP was referring to. That's just one example I've seen where Frank mentioned there being some limitations Cutter was imposing by not realistically signing to X amount of teams.

It was before the timestamp. Thanks.

As you said, Frank specifically says that there were 18-20 teams on his acceptable list. That probably did not significantly impact returns. We have to say probably because trade markets are ultimately set by the highest bidders. Two of the highest bidders were probably in an 18-20 team sample size. But we'll never know.

And of course everyone is going to value certain trade assets (Drysdale, Byram, etc) differently. Your high bid may not be mine. That's how it's supposed to work. Nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

Again, not surprising. :)

How does the NHL expect to maintain parity when young players can dictate where they land? This is not a normal labour situation where employee x is open to work for whichever corp he feels like. The NHL has a responsibility to even the playing field for every team. If not nobody will want to play in small markets and those teams will forever suffer. It's hardly labour standards abuse to go make millions in Winnipeg for 10 yrs. It's a really unique situation that requires unique answers. Vegas, Dallas, and Florida have such major advantages right now.

The simple solution would be to change the rule to: The rights to all drafted players, no matter the country of origin, belong to the team that drafted them until the drafted player reaches the age of 27 upon which they will be considered unrestricted free agents.

Don’t think Quitter would choose to play in Europe over the Flyers for the next 7 years. Although to avoid playing for Torts, it’s possible.

The Flyers dictated this. These seeds were laid and the crops sown by the Philadelphia Flyers. There's a reason this type of situation is rare. It's because Flyers level delusion and arrogance is rare

The fact that you have to go all the way back to Lindros in the early 90’s to find some type of comparable situation with a high pick refusing to sign kind of shows you how rare it is.

There was plenty of players during that time span that logically would have had a case for refusing to sign with teams in that span too but ultimately didn’t.

Most picks that high want to get to the NHL asap so they can earn money. Also look at the amount of criticism both Lindros & Gauthier took from making that decision even beyond the team they spurned. That’s not a situation a lot of kids probably want to endure.

Blake Wheeler in 2008 after refusing to sign with Coyotes... 5th overall pick too. But yeh, point still stands!

So it's only one practice the day before a game, but based off these line combos and the PP units....is Couturier going to be a healthy scratch tomorrow?

I called it from the minute Coots was put with Deslauriers maybe 4 days after being named captain: Tortorella just wanted to use it as an opportunity for psychological warfare. “Look, we have a captain now. And I’ll bench his ass too.” There is no captain — there is only the God Emperor.

Coots is obviously worn down from Tortorella playing him 20+ every night after missing 1.5 years. Playing him with sub-NHLers isn’t going to make him start producing either. Tortorella is in a problem of his own doing, but I don’t think he minds that.

Couturier last 5 games:

74.3% ExGF (1st amongst fwds)
46.2% ExGF (7th amongst fwds)
79.5% ExGF (3rd amongst fwds)
29.1% ExGF (7th amongst fwds)
37.4% ExGF (6th amongst fwds)

Has he been at his best? No.

Has he been even amongst the teams worst 6 forwards recently? No.
Torts is basically telling the world that Briere decided to name a captain over his objection. He is a petulant child throwing a temper tantrum. Based purely on performance, Couts should be the 2C with Frost centering the top line.

I truly hope this team loses out and Briere attempts to fire the blowhard POS. If Jones overrules him, then Briere should quit and go public with his reasons why.

The organization’s dysfunction needs to exposed, the amount of power held by an arrogant, out of touch, man child of an HC is truly disgusting.

Torts did that all by himself by all accounts. Torts just decided one day to everyone's surprise that it was time to name a captain.
