Couts: This season, to me, was all about just getting Couts through it without injury. Points, stats, underlying metrics -- they were all secondary. As such, I'm not going to harp on it too much, but the degradation of Couts during this season can't be anything but concerning to the fans and team alike. It's not just his raw points production has dropped, his scoring rate has dropped. I've said this before, his expected offensive metrics aren't great, but he's getting great results anyways -- it's too early to definitively tell what that means. It could just be a blip in the timeline, or it could signify the beginning of aging. All I'll do is re-evaluate at game 40 next season, and see where we are.

There’s some interesting stuff going on here. I’m hesitant to go into it in too much detail because we’re wading neck deep into tiny sample sizes, but there is evidence that the offensive peak ended after ‘20-21. Again, tiny sample sizes and I don’t like drawing these hard lines between seasons. He also played on some dead end teams that didn’t exactly use him well.

He’s currently got the 2nd worst (Lycksell) oiSV% at 5v5 of any Flyer. He has a PDO of 96.2. He missed last year. The year before that, it was 97.0. The year before that, it was 95.8. I don’t know what the hell to do with a player who I think is in offensive decline but also finally being leveraged by a coach more as a scorer while simultaneously giving him 50 Minutes of 5v5 time with Nic Deslauriers. None of this allows for clean reads.

There’s no way to spin Couturier’s season as a whole as bad. But this might simply be a switching of who the line driver is. This is why it was so important that Konecny took the ‘19-20 jump of doing it away from Giroux and Couturier. We all knew it would be needed.

The Isles have a pretty easy schedule the next handful of games, and 3 games in hand. The Flyers could standpat, and be out of the playoffs before the month is out.

To keep Ersson fresh, absolutely use him against the teams that we are confident that the Flyers can beat. Use Sandstrom intermittently against teams that the Flyers have little chance of beating. Don’t run Ersson into the ground against the top clubs night after night.
But we have 3 so called easy games and 9 vs the best teams in the east who will all add players as well.

It's almost like Briere does not have access to the teams schedule.

Hell
Isles, Rags, Devils, Caps, Sabres, CBJ.

Better, but teams chasing us to , so not good.

Sharks, MTL, Hawks is all I got.

Bruins is auto losses
Fla trip usually losses
Leafs, Canes, Rags, Fla again most likely losses.

No chance Errson holds up
I'm giving them at least 1 shocker win and those 3 so that's why I said 5 max.

then 3 years from now we revisit the bullshit "rebuild"

#sameasiteverwas
Walker gets 30 mill, Seeler gets 15 mill, Laughton knows he's the most valuable Flyer, they will all play better I bet lol. Next year will be a disaster.

Is Seeler hurt?
Tried in the 3rd and couldn't go, and this is a guy that blocks pucks with his face.

100% when he took that skate off his foot swelled to double the size.

We have also been spoiled as Flyers fans by most of the teams "longer terms" "stars" in the last 20 years or so aging veeeery gracefully.

Giroux, Voracek, Timonen, Briere, Desjardins, LeClair, Recchi.

All made it to ~32-34 years old at ~75% of their prime level.

Then some of the guys who came in after doing the same in Pronger, Roenick being two guys who came in and did similar.

That aint the norm even amongst the high end guys, in fact around 50% do that and the others have a bigger fall off. Then add in injury too... Couturier is going to be 32 this year. That is the "cliff" for a lot of ~60-70 point guys.

Laughton looked like he hit the age wall at 29, then suddenly after the All Star break he's looked pretty good.
