Now with Drysdale missing time and with Risto (hopefully) gone for the season, there's 0 chance they trade Seeler and Walker without getting 1-2 roster D men back. That's 2 D spots open even with Staal playing every night and I suspect Torts going with 7 D if they call up 2 AHL guys on a regular. I'd be fine with whomever they call up and call it a D, but knowing the org/Torts there's just no way they won't want a roster player back in any trade they make.

I think it could be done, with the D coming back as the cap dump who still play well. The Flyers have the space to take Ian Cole ($3 mil; UFA end of this year) back from Vancouver or Brenden Dillon ($3.9 mil; UFA end of this year) from Winnipeg, for example.

It’s funny - a few people have said it, we’ve been seeing really good improved play from Cates and York, Foerster has been awesome.

Unfortunately, that is being parlayed with injuries to Drysdale and TK, Atkinson being awful, and Coots going ice cold. Farabee in a scoring slump too.

I’m pretty certain Zamula stinks, I know we’ve talked about this the last few weeks, but I’m glad we’ve seen a big enough sample size with a competent team + system for me to at least form an opinion.

Attard in theory, should probably be here for the rest of the way if Risto and Jamie are truly out longterm.

Lets see if he stinks. Rooting for Ronnie.

Well we haven't moved a D yet, but with a few injuries, I get to see the Attard action I wanted.

Just to weigh in on the Drysdale trade, I wouldn't be the type of general manager to pick up players coming off of injury or damaged goods. Just too much of a risk for me, whether it be a Josh Anderson or a Jack Eichel, I'd be staying away.

I promise he's better than you think

He looks rough at times once he's in his end on a cycle, but he's good at NZ defense and he doesn't need many chances at a puck to get it moving up ice. He often doesn't need to resort to DZ defense because he makes plays to stop things from getting there. We tend to have the puck more with him on the ice than when he's not.

Unfortunately, this is exactly the kind of dman that is hard to appreciate. The Ghost kind of puck focused soft-defense which works really well but doesn't look flashy since he isn't banging bodies clear.

I am not Z's biggest fan. I'd be happy to throw him in a trade if another team has interest.

Zamula does make some nice plays. The problem is he makes too many bad ones.

He’s oddly calm on the puck in the ozone, and definitely can be used on the PP although I want Cam York to be that guy on PP2.

I just worry about his feet speed and his instincts. Sometimes he takes some really bad angles and gives inside positioning or he makes a bad decision that leads to a 2v1 or 3v2. I honestly think he will be better next year, I’m kinda shocked the coaching staff didn’t scratch him sooner lol

Seems very well liked in room, and if they can continue to get something out of him, a Russian kid with a lot of friends on the team, who has a fun personality will be helpful for Michkov.!

I'd say overall he's enough of a net positive to hold onto. We can easily do worse

I think people severely underrate how hard it is to be a 7th defenseman and perform with inconsistent ice time. You can't get into the flow of the game. I don't think it's a coincidence his best play came when he was on PP1 for that stretch and playing regular minutes. Skilled guys feed off of ice time and puck touches.

Zamula never had good foot speed and if you were expecting that, your expectations were unrealistic. But....he's 6'4 with an incredibly long reach. You can get away with having poor footspeed when you are that long, but it takes good positioning. He's a guy I would easily hold on to as at least a regular 3rd pair guy. He still has really good puck skills and passing instincts. Have a feeling he has a KHL contract waiting for him though. He'll light it up over there and we'll wonder why we let him walk. Especially when Seeler gets re-signed and ultimately ends up on the 3rd pair.

He's one of the best entry defenders in the league.

He was pretty inconsistent at the Junior level and gambled a lot in this area so it's good to see this in the NHL. He always had a pretty good stick though, and again, he has a massive reach.

Even though he's getting PP time and no PK time, I always kind of envisioned Zamula as a modern day defensive leaning defenseman who could actually make a good first pass (not the cliche) and keep cycles alive. I just don't think he has the athleticism to create the necessary advantages to consistently produce points 5v5.
