Since this is part of the Ristolainen article, I excerpted a part of trade speculation...

Flyers Looking at Centres

It is no secret the Flyers lack depth down the middle of the ice, and the front office has been doing their due diligence around the league in order to address it. I’ve been told that the Flyers have been looking at younger centremen across the NHL, potentially needing a new home and buy-low options to jump on.
Buffalo’s Peyton Krebs is a name the Flyers reportedly like, and while he is a player the Flyers have scouted, it is important to note there haven’t been any talks between the two clubs.
Casey Mittlestadt of the Sabres and Cody Glass of the Nashville Predators are two names the Flyers have taken looks on, but I’m told that neither player is of interest to the team.
Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras has seen his name out there the last several weeks, obviously having people speculate if the Flyers would pounce on it. Checking in on this, I don’t get the sense Zegras is an option for the Flyers at this time. I don’t think this has to do one way or another on how they feel about Zegras as a player, but more to do with them not feeling they have the assets to pry him out of Anaheim. Things can certainly change, but I wouldn’t expect any traction with Zegras and the Flyers in the near future.
Dallas Stars’ prospect pivots Maverik Bourque and Logan Stankhoven are two names I’ve heard many are high on, though I can’t say for certain the Flyers have scouted or have interest in. I don’t imagine the Stars are in any rush to trade them but, as Pagnotta has reported, they are in the market for a right shot defenceman. With Evgeni Dadonov out long term, they may be looking for a forward, too.
Again, important not to rush to any conclusions, but the Flyers are doing their due diligence across the league on young centremen.

Yet again the Flyers are targeting the inferior asset on Buffalo's roster.

I wouldn't mind if Frost were part of a deal to get a legitimate 1C candidate, but he would need to be a significant piece from the Flyers and not just a throw-in.
Ideally I would love to see them add a 1C candidate without including Frost. If they can have Couturier and Frost as the middle six centers with Poehling as the 4C then this forward group can start transitioning into that contender echelon.

Absolutely, sauce. But the Flyers don't have much in the way of trade capital so I would understand if the other team desired a still-with-upside C to replace the C they were giving up.

I was hoping they would trade Tippett (or TK) for that kind of player. Nothing against Tippett the player, I just think RW is kind of a stacked position, and if Michkov comes over, it's going to be filled to the brim.

I already did the whole spiel last week about how hard it is to find 1Cs outside the top 5-10. But since 2011, what Flyers centers (besides Couturier and Giroux) have performed better than Frost over the last 12 months? That's not me saying Frost is that player -- my hope is he achieves consistency as an ice tilting 50-60 point center, which is hella valuable (and apparently more valuable than this center bereft team believes). But they currently have zero centers in the pipeline. And over a 13 year period they haven't acquired a better one, through the draft or free agency or trade.

"They'll find one!" Well, they haven't. And with the closest they've come, they're not "sold on" the player.

If a year from now Frost has continued to develop to the point where he gets a Tippet-style extension, will the twitter twats who repeatedly said he should be playing on the wing in the AHL or Europe defect to another team the way many Xbox fanboys recently jumped ship?

That would be ideal.

They love to shoot themselves in the foot with centers with these long ass development arcs as well. Outside of them lucking into a unicorn type situation like Michkov converting into a stud C (like Giroux), they're never going to get that 1C production from a guy on their second, let alone first contract.

I'm starting to wonder/worry about Couts. I said at the beginning of the year, this season for Couts is solely about staying healthyand getting his legs and timing back. So in that regard, it's been a success.

However, since ~game 25, both his scoring rates and analytics have slowly dropped. A potentially big indicator is that his actual on-ice performance is out performing his expected performance. This isn't always a problem - some players will always out perform their expected... But 1) Couts has never been that player, and 2) The difference between the offensive expected and actual is pretty significant.

This could just be Couts getting back into form, and this could just be a throw away season, but this could also be an indicator that Couts has begun a decline. I would love for him to finish the season strong and curtail my worry.
