He's actually been pretty Holmgrenny. They are all of the same general mind. This isn't a group that can tolerate the slightest deviation from the way things have always been.

And I love that! They're committed to their beliefs no matter what!
Flyers way. Always has been. Gotta wait for them to croak... and then some.

I thought the rationale for signing dlo was pretty clearly we need someone to protect our young players. That's about preserving pride when you are down 3-0 which is what happens when you are rebuilding
Rebuilding is about moving guys you like. sanheim not seeler

That's a terrible rationale, since protection doesn't exist.

But I think it's positive the Flyers are so optimistic and naive and innocent

Right now, the Flyers biggest problem is they're years away from a critical mass of young players who are NHL ready, Bonk, Barkey, Michkov, etc

Not to the extent it used to but I think it's still prevelant amongst bottom feeders. The only thing worse than losing 7-0 is losing that bad and just taking it .
I like the way they are playing we just need guys better suits to it. when we have a level of talent that won't get us embarrassed we won't have to worry about what happens when we do

Deslauriers doesn't do anything to change that. You don't want them to take it? That's a roster-wide thing. Deslauriers losing fights has no grander purpose.

Mike Eastwood was Keith Jones’ teammate (& I think captain) at Western Michigan.
In the NHL, there is rarely 3 degrees of separation.

Think how many teams Eastwood played for, he probably couldn't get a job without someone in the FO being a former teammate.

Last ten games Deslauriers has played 43 minutes. Think he's a bit of a nonissue (other than the last two years of his contract) at this point. If he isn't moved, he's destined to become well acquainted with the press box as the 14th forward.

I agree with you. I’ve never agreed with the blanket perspective that you shouldn’t hire people you’ve worked with before.

It’s a silly stance. That’s the way businesses works in all realms. If you’ve worked with someone & have had positive experiences with them, then that’s advantageous intel.

If "They've worked with me before" is their main qualification, then that is bad. That's definitely how the Flyers work.

I think it is great and positive that they give jobs to these people devoid of merit, though. They might go hungry and stoop to eating gum off the sidewalk otherwise. The Flyers are humanitarians.

Remember that time Clarke hired Wayne Cashman to be HC because he really liked his sense of humor? That was positively amazing!

If you are actually committing to the rebuild, Couturier is the one being shopped first right?

Bounce back season, probably not getting any better. Older. Playoff performer. Type of guy that gms overpay for

Couts has no trade value, but a lot of value as a mentor on a young team.
Would you rather have 30+ year old Couts or 30+ year old Palat?

In theory yes, absolutely, but in practice that back and contract mean he's Designated Intangible Mentor.

Would the Flyers trade Couturier even if some team took the whole contract? I'm not so sure. He's one of the key pieces keeping them afloat this year; they were non-functional without him (a rebuild can't have that). Their organizational center depth is: Couturier - Frost (pack your shit) - Poehling - Cates - Uhhhh - Ummm.

Trading Couturier (if possible) is something a rebuilding team would do. So no.

It is better to have someone who cannot be tanged than someone who can be. Think about it.

If you want to develop wings, you need competent centers, you can already see how the wings who play with Poehling and Laughton underperform offensively.

With Sergachev taken off on a stretcher last night with what appears to be a pretty serious leg injury, I wonder if Tampa might now have some interest in Walker.

I’d prefer them to have interest in Fisto, but that organization isn’t run by imbeciles.

I think our best case scenario here would be to interest them in Seeler, who's the cheapest option by a lot, both in terms of salary and justifiable return.
