I can't stand Hathaway, but I agree. He's an established NHL player.
Only on this board would people allege a player who was waived & cleared before the season at age 27, & has spent 11 games in the AHL & only 3 as an NHL call-up, is superior to a player the same team traded for a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd at the trade deadline & who signed a $2.3M contract as a UFA.

Like alleging Hagg and Yandle are better than Ghost, which is a much larger whiff than comparing two 4th liners?

Embarrassing deflection attempt from your ridiculous assertion that the Caps “chose” to play AHL NAK whom they waived over Hathaway whom they traded for a 1st 2nd & 3rd.

I explicitly said Ghost was a better player than Hagg, though the Flyers had a stretch where Ghost was slumping & they were playing better with Hagg, & that Yandle was the worst defenseman I ever watched in a Flyers uniform. But you’ve never been one for context or genuineness.

The Caps threw Orlov into that deal. Just kinda tossed him in there so they could get Craig Smith back.

Such spectacular dishonesty! For months you did not explicitly say either were better than Ghost. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Your years of shitting all over Sanheim are looking pretty bad now too, as are your proclamations of Frost busting. And despite your insistence once upon a time that NAK simply isn't an NHL player that any GM would take for free, he keeps appearing in the NHL.

In short, you have no room to criticize a single evaluation made by anyone because you own the most spectacular evaluation failures the board has seen over the years.

When do you begin pretending you weren't vigorously in favor of Rocky Thompson?

So the season is super early, but I wanted to touch on Sean Walker. This dude is performing so well in the early season. 88th percentile in xGAR, 97th percentile in GAR (both per EH). They are a significantly better offensive team and defensive team when he’s on the ice.

From my eye, he’s been very aggressive leading to lots of controlled entries and controlled exits. His in-zone coverage has been adequate, but he really is the modern day two-way defenseman. Mobile, good first-pass, can skate. I have loved watching him player.

The interesting part is what are the going to do with him? He’s 29, so I can’t see him being part of the long term plans. The smart thing to do would be to continue to play him in the advantageous situations, and move him at the TDL. I am sure that was their original plan, but know we know their objectives are to win as many games as possible. If that’s their actual objective it would be hard to trade maybe your best defenseman so far this season…Yes Sanheim has been good in a tougher role, but Walker has been better albeit in a slightly reduced role.

I think he and Seeler complement each other well each others playstyle let's the other be in their comfort zone. Walker can roam a bit while Seeler can stay in his lanes and contribute when needed. Seeler tends to get in trouble when he tries to do too much.

I enjoy watching him play. But if they're serious about rebuilding he's got to be moved, in no small part so they can draft the dmen who will be their future.

Of course they aren't serious about rebuilding though.

There are a bunch of older players that are playing well right now that should be moved.

Seeler, Atkinson, Walker, to a lesser extent Hathaway. All guys 1-2 years away from Free Agency that NEED to be moved this year if you're truly rebuilding. Again, the problem I see here these players are actually playing well right now. This is one of those 'hard' decisions Jojo talks about. They've made the no-brainers, but haven't yet made these types of trades. We'll see how they do.

Their refusal to sell high on Laughton is looking pretty deficient already.

I also favored selling Tippett but he's young enough that it isn't a problem I guess.

I supported the Sanhero extension & said he’d get the same contract on the open market even after his bad season. Did you?

That put me in the minority on this board, of supposed Sanhero lovers who used hindsight to bash the contract & called him unmovable.

But hey, we all know you’re desperately trying to deflect attention from your not even knowing the Hurricanes play the same type of dump-chase & point-shot offense you criticized Hakstol for using.

And for making the absolutely ridiculous comment that the Caps “chose to play” NAK over Hathaway. It’s no wonder you ignored that the same logic would mean Carolina chose Jalen Chatfield over Ghost.

I’m curious to see what you’ll lie about next. Everyone knows you’re pathologically unable to honestly represent what others have said. If there’s one absolute truth on this board, it’s that if Beef claims someone said something, it’s guaranteed that it’s an intentional misrepresentation of what they said.

Are you illiterate? My core point about the Hurricanes was that they are way more organized than the Flyers, and they also don't run a Hakstolian perimeter offense. You're lying again.

I don't lie. You like to pretend I do when your bad evaluations go wrong and I bring them up. You like to pretend you didn't spend extended periods of time doing the things you say you didn't do.

I totally agree. Walker has been really solid. In a perfect world, I'd like to keep him, but based on where the franchise is, the right move is to trade him. If they get good picks for him, it makes the Provorov trade look even better. Let's hope they make the right decision with him...or at the very least he tells them he wont resign.

I think they should extend Sean Walker, barring an offer they can’t refuse.

If he keeps up his play, what's a fair offer for Walker at the TDL? Late first? 2 2nds?

Same, I have really enjoyed Walker this season.

FWIW, Charlie O was talking about him on yesterday's PHLY pod.

He said Walker told the media that Torts told him to pinch, be aggressive, take chances, and that has really been good for his game.

Second point Charlie mentioned was a Walker extension - is it a smart move? It's like playing with found money, so moving him at the deadline would be smart. That said, there is a case to be made that he could he a bridge to Bonk, with a 2-3 year deal.

Most likely, if Walker keeps playing well, is that he will not want to re-sign here anyway. As a 29 year old RHD, he would likely receive multiple competing offers on the open market, so that may be Walker's smartest move, if that's what he's after.
