It's always been a rerun of the Hextall Plan. Hell, they had zero problem with anything Hextall did on the hockey side, so it shouldn't be any surprise they're doing it again. That/This is their idea of rebuilding. It was his lack of worship of Clarke that did him in, they kept doing everything else.

What decisions are they making with older players?

"We're trying to grow young players, but..."

Classic Flyers, developing young players is never the priority. It doesn't matter what comes after the "but", because this team will give any and all excuses to play vets and chase wins.

Until they trade players of consequence that the coach didn't already hate, this is just repeating the last decade of mediocrity.

This is the framing that matters. Whether it's a rebuild or not is an excuse for people to argue.

The issue of substance is whether the clear primary goal is winning games when they're ready to contend. Tortorella directly told us that it's not. For all of his faults, he's not a liar. No debate to be had anymore.

For hockey it’s 10 players and a goalie who get protected.

I don’t know if coaches can be one of the 5, but I’ll try to find out.

The last homegrown true superstar they developed was Claude who was drafted in 2006. That’s nearly 20 years

Better yet, who is the last player the team developed/drafted that one can say truly exceeded initial expectations?

I can’t think of one other than early Ghost - and we know what happened there.

Guy was never going to willingly wear those losses. He needs people to think he’s overachieving here.

Probably Lindblom. A 5th round pick even making the roster and taking a regular shift is exceeding expectations. f***ing cancer, kid was on his way to being very good middle 6 wing.

This just occured to me, but if a team and player lie about why they aren't in the lineup (fake injury, fake illness, incorrect injury, etc.), are there repercussions? Can the team just say whatever they want re:player status?
If you’re insinuating what I think you’re insinuating the thought crossed my mind too. Hopefully we’re wrong
