Actually, Deslauriers is having a pretty good season so far, he looks much better with faster centers than the dreck he played with last season.
On the other hand, Poehling is pretty disappointing, all that speed but he does little with it.

The strangest thing about the game was Couts losing 2/3 of his faceoffs.

I think it's becoming obvious that they have to move a RW and add a true LW.
None of the RWs seem comfortable on the left side.
Couturier has had a number of bad faceoff games.

Whatever his “lower body injury” is, it’s impacting his draws.

That, or his back is causing problems, which wouldn’t surprise me.

Beauvillier is an overrated offensive player who is invisible for long stretches & who no coach would want to play on the 4th line.

Trotz healthy scratched him 2 years ago when he was Frost’s age.

Though, granted, Beauvillier made the NHL much earlier than Frost & also had two productive playoff performances, so he’s done things Frost hasn’t. In that sense I’m being pretty damn generous.

1) But Beauvillier has been getting time on Vancouver's 4th line, one of the best teams in the league to date

2) Deslauriers can come out of the line up without Frost being forced onto the 4th line. This was already shown when Laughton got time on the 4th line

3) Frost is coming off a more productive full season than Beauvillier has ever had despite being a younger age

OK, fine if you think Beauvillier isn’t a great approximation of Frost’s level. Like I said, it’s clear most posters here think Frost is a lot better. So give me a player who’s a better approximation of Frost’s caliber.

Beauvillier is an apt comparable. Let's just not pretend that Beauvillier can't play on the 4th line, Frost has to play on the 4th line, or that Beauvillier is a "generous" comparison when Frost has outright had the better NHL season at a younger age.

Flyers brass sees more offense in Cates. Why? Best guess is he is an intelligent player like Coots so they imagine offense will magically appear.

They incorrectly project Cates just as they are incorrectly projecting Frost.
They are rebuilding, so it makes sense to throw more on Cates' plate and see how he responds.
Unless you think they're a playoff team?

Frost is a mystery, though Laughton has outplayed him overall.
While Laughton over Poehling is an upgradefor the team, it's a downgrade for Laughton.
If they're looking to trade him, it might not be the best move.

But I'm not going to get excited about things on a short-term basis the next three years, Briere has be honest, he doesn't expect to compete for a couple years, and I'm sure his schedule is based on Gauthier and Bonk arriving and finding roles, elevating some prospects the next three years, and building a young competitive team for 2026-27 when they'll get a huge boost.

Michkov will be a game changer, and I'm sure they're building with him in mind.

Come on Dead. If they're looking to trade Laughton, it might not be the best move to play him on the 4th line? Continuously scratching Frost in a similar scenario is totally fine though.

Laughton scored his only goal of the year so far when Frost bumped him to the 4th line by the way.

Hive hysteria once again.

It's going to be a long three years, if you haven't resigned yourself to that, you emotionally can't handle a rebuild. I can't get excited week to week, because it's a "long and winding road."

If you look at player performance game to game, what jumps out is the variance, which is why advanced metrics don't settle down for 20 games (GF/GA, otherwise known as +/-, may take a couple seasons).

The team in April is a good bet to look different than the team in November.
And the team in October 2026 will be far different.
What, me worry?

YOU’VE USED METRICS TO POINT OUT THAT THIS TEAM IS HALF DECENT SINCE THE START OF THE SEASON! YOU’VE BEEN EXCITED WEEK TO WEEK!

Every single person here knows that the next few years are going to be shit. We’ve recognized that for a decade now while others have claimed otherwise. The problem is that those certain few that don’t recognize that right now is shit and the processes are shit which is going to make that “rebuild” fail.

Get this gaslighting bs out of here.

P.S. This isn’t a rebuild.

Who knows? I'm content to let things play out and not get overly excited.

I think changes will be made at some point, they have too many RWs, not enough centers, we'll see how players develop in LHV (Desnoyers C and Tuomaala RW look like the best forward prospects).

And these changes will be followed by other changes this summer.

Did Beauvillier ever lead his team in ES scoring over an entire season? Serious question.

So Torts is playing a vet player signed forever that he openly knows is hurt in a rebuild, does that seem smart to you ?

I mean he communicates with his players more than anyone, so he would know if he's hurt.

They are rebuilding, so it makes sense to throw more on Cates' plate and see how he responds.

Well he isn't responding at all, unless you do not expect any offensive output.

Wait we are considering boosting trade value LOL

Deady and Ghosty, when Frost moves on and is a 40-60 point center, whom will you blame ?

Torts
Wingers
Frost himself

Laughton hasn't outplayed him. Frost isn't a mystery. You only pretend it is because you're not capable of criticizing Tortorella, who isn't what you pretended he would be.

They've played 13 games. They are 5-7-1. It's ridiculous to describe this situation as, "losses are piling up for the great Torts!"
