this is where we disagree. Deep down they want the playoffs so bad and it is a goal imo.I don't think "competitive" means a PO team to them.
I think it's more like last season v the two previous seasons, where they consistently came back and stayed in games, even if they eventually lost. Much better environment for developing young players than a team going through the motions.
Though one never knows, CBJ was pretty bad when Torts took over, he turned it around without adding a lot of talent (basically Gagner after he stunk out the joint here), just by getting players to play harder and more disciplined. Same with Brind'Amour in Carolina, where they shuffled the deck (Hanifan and Lindholm out, Hamilton in) but didn't really add much talent.
Yep. One article after another about how the Flyers could surprise and prove people wrong.this is where we disagree. Deep down they want the playoffs so bad and it is a goal imo.
i think this team can sneak into the playoffs. even though I'd love to draft low again, if you have a player like couturier healthy it makes more sense to play to win instead of play to lose, its such a waste of talent otherwise, and theres still lots of years you can get out of him. danny hasnt signed anybody long term that wasnt already signed when he inherited the team he just brought in guys that are known for leadership and playing hard and are familiar with the playoffs. might as well give these guys one last hoorah before blowing it up, if they still suck this year they cant say the team didnt give them the best chance to succeed without handcuffing themselves.this is where we disagree. Philadelphia Phinally Phires Phlaccid Phucker PhletcherI'm a huge fan of shoehorning the "PH" into everything possible, but I gotta say "Outphitters" doesn't work for me. It's in the linguistic uncanny valley.
It only took over three months from revealing them.
I don't think they have any illusions, a lot would have to go right to make the playoffs, and the betting odds suggest it's very unlikely.i think this team can sneak into the playoffs. even though I'd love to draft low again, if you have a player like couturier healthy it makes more sense to play to win instead of play to lose, its such a waste of talent otherwise, and theres still lots of years you can get out of him. danny hasnt signed anybody long term that wasnt already signed when he inherited the team he just brought in guys that are known for leadership and playing hard and are familiar with the playoffs. might as well give these guys one last hoorah before blowing it up, if they still suck this year they cant say the team didnt give them the best chance to succeed without handcuffing themselves.

1) best case is great goalie play from Hart/Ersson or Peterson regains his mojo.
2) Couts is back 100%, Atkinson 100%
3) Frost, Tippett, Cates, York continue to improve
4) Sanheim rebounds and Risto keeps improving defensively
5) Foerster, Brink, Zamula, Andrae et al, 2 or 3 emerge as top 6/top 4 players
Realistically, 80-85 points is probably the best they can expect.
This will still mean a TDL sell off, but playing respectable hockey will make those veterans more attractive.
They think they're in Year 2 of a 3 Year Rebuild.
They have a LOT of illusions.

Might take you up on that just to hear you squeal!I would bet disgusting things done to my body that they will chase someone from the FA defenseman class next summer.
This is the last year of the acceptable half ass rebuild - before a mantra of “moving forward” is preached by the pigs.
ya ive been saying the same things, too much needs to go perfect, too many players need to have great seasons but the tables been set for some players to succeed so i can understand the logic behind not tearing everything down yetI don't think they have any illusions, a lot would have to go right to make the playoffs, and the betting odds suggest it's very unlikely.

They're more likely to dump veterans than add a big money FA. The timetable is wrong.
What would be more likely is if Gauthier shows he can handle center, and Couts is 100%, they package Frost, Zamula or another D prospect and one of their 1st rd picks for a young, first pair RHD before the draft.
This season is about evaluating what they have, not just prospects, but Sanheim, Risto et al, and see who is worth keeping around the next few years. They're not getting a lot with those contracts, but they don't need to shed them the next few years either.
The timetable is wrong.
They literally just spent this offseason adding veterans, and you think they're going to do less of that next year when they think they're done rebuilding????????????Might take you up on that just to hear you squeal!

Holmgren and his "win now" mandate isn't running the show, and Scott with wormtongue whispering in his ear is retired.
This isn't the same group as the past decade, the one that refused to rebuild after the Carter/Richards trade, that started to rebuild in 2014 and stopped after a season, who went for a last hurrah after 2018-19.
The current talent pipeline is their best since 2016 or so, and they have 4 picks in the first two rounds of the 2024 draft.
They haven't blown things up, but they're dumping veterans, not signing FAs, and auditioning a lot of prospects.
is chuck goign to be a GM of another team? Zamula may be available for free in a few weeks.Might take you up on that just to hear you squeal!

It's obviously Boucher, 100 f***ing percent chance.
