The cap starts to rise next summer, as the escrow will have been paid off, probably about $4M.
There seems always to be a market for "enforcers" and physical RHDs by PO teams.
Wouldn't expect a lot for Nicky D, but MacEwen got a 5th and Brown a 7th.

Huge difference between $1M and $5M.
$1M and $1.75M is a difference easily managed.

You’re the one that said Schenn and Risto were comparable at those numbers…
No I didn't. All I did was note that Schenn was still employed despite being a below average skater with little offensive skill.

The comparable for Risto were the physical RHDs like Savard who seem to be in demand at every TDL.

so a team with a rising cap will waste it on ND for 7 minutes a night? plus those 2 had expiring deals. That makes a huge diff

risto will be movable next summer you seem to believe. Why, who knows. Savard iwas a much better dman that Risto.

How many teams will roll the dice on Risto who has played in as many NHL playoff games as you and I?

This is amusing, since L Schenn is the ultimate "dinosaur" D-man.

This is a guy who from 2016-2020 could be considered worse than Risto.
So it does make sense to see if you can "fix" Risto and make it easier to dump him.
Luke Schenn was being paid $850k at the moment this post was made.

They’re not comparable.

The point was that teams love "dinosaur" D-men.

Risto was much improved defensively last season, if Shaw can continue to get him to focus on positioning rather than hits, he'll have substantial value at say 3x3 or so next summer if they want to move him [they might wait until Attard and Bonk are established starters, not too many options in the system at RHD].

They love them at $850k, not $5M.

Substantial value? Get out of here with this crap.

You put Risto and Schenn in the same sentence and acted as if they’re the same. They’re not the same. They’re not comparable.

So does this team. It’s been reported by ASF Ristolainen wasn’t traded because even with the regime change at the top they still value him as a player & feel he’s integral to playoff hockey. They think they fixed Ristolainen & as of now he’s apart of the plans going forward right now. As he also said during the segment they’re hopeful that in two years from now they can start pushing the roster forward & looking to the playoffs.

I don't know which is more egregious: the fact that this team thinks there is a market for Fisto at that cap hit, or that this team thinks he is a key piece of a contending roster.

The way I interpret all this: "Torts thinks he fixed Risto, or never believed there was anything wrong with him in the first place, and Torts has FAR too much power for a head coach - Danny is his bitch and would never do anything against his wishes."

Ristolainen and Seeler...2 players this team can't trade

Who were they going to trade Risto to at 4x5?
And who was going to play RHD this year?
Makes more sense to see if he can continue to improve.

xGA/60rel
Seeler -0.58
Braun -0.33
York -0.28
Risto -0.27
Sanheim +0.22
Provorov +0.26
TDA +0.83

Too bad Chuck's flawless record was tarnished by that one bad signing. The trade for him was fine, since other teams are also dumb enough to offer up 1sts for 3rd pairing guys.

I was speaking more towards your endless defense of past regimes, but I guess you've moved on:laugh:. Funny how it's never anyone's fault....until they're gone.

Bob Clarke likes this post.
I criticized both the Risto trade and the Risto signing at the time.
But spilt milk, water under the bridge . . .
Same way I didn't like the Sanheim extension, too much for a 2nd pair D-man.
Again, what was done is done.

Question is what do you do going forward, and that is try and make the best of a bad situation.
Try to make Risto into a decent defensive defenseman, try to find ways to use Sanheim to get some value out of that contract.
