Staal & Seelsy will 100% be dressed opening night.
Wouldn’t bet against that. I can hear the FO already: “It’s a long season; the young guys will be back in time.”; “They still need to work on some things.”; etc. The problem is that these guys aren’t young any longer. It’s time to play them or lose them. Ex.-Attard. He’s had a full slate of college play; international tournament exposure and time in the A. If he’s not ready for the show now, he never will be. If he were released, he’d be snapped up in a second by another organization where he’d play. It’s a similar situation with Z.

Dumoulin spent 2 years in the AHL after a college career, wasn't given a starting job in Pittsburgh until he was 24.
Attard was less polished coming out of college, he improved last year, but are his defensive fundamentals good enough to start in the NHL full-time?
If the Flyers can send Attard down without exposing him to waivers, it's up to him to show in camp that he's too good to demote.

He can show that in camp and they'd demote him. And then you'd claim he must have had a bad camp, which justifies playing worse players ahead of him for 75+ games.

Does anyone think Zamula would be claimed if put on waivers?

So if he out plays Staal and/or Seeler you really think he will be in the opening night lineup?

Yes and Yes.
There's no attachment to Seeler or Staal, they're cheap veteran depth.
Attard is a potential long-term starter for this team, if he's ready, he plays. Same with Zamula.

You're going to be proven wrong soon. Again. As is annual tradition.

Then you'll pretend they were actually bad to defend the team yet again proving you wrong.

An 8 man defense and the melding of 3rd/4th lines into a single unit would be the Flyers jumping the shark. I hope they do it for maximum chaos.
Hmm lemme see

Laughton cooter Atkinson
Farabee frost tk
Tippet poehling Hathaway
Gardner Cates Allison
D-lo

I honestly see that first line happening. A veteran example of guys who play the right way that torts wants the others to emulate

Like when Seeler wouldn't play? And York was demoted....only to magically be ready later on in the year able to play on a top pairing?

What a magical 20 games in tbe AHL.

York demoted himself, looked like crap in TC, they kept Zamula over him.
Took a couple months in the AHL to look like the player from last spring, I think he bulked up too much and lost some lateral agility.

Seeler was the #6 D-man all season, he earned his PT by consistent play,
He's a limited player, but excelled within those limitations.

Laughton Coots and Atkinson/TK is a possibility for sure on the top line, i prefer TK but if cam has the juice for 1st line minutes right away that helps his draft stock as long he doesnt end up burning out noticeably before the deadline. I dont think theyll have Tippet on the 3rd though. My guess is cam starts on the third line with Foerster and Cates, and Farabee Frost Tippett on the 2nd, the 4th line Im not sure what theyll do but i hope its not gardner.

No actually Tortorella demoted him for being too mature. York doesn't make lineup decisions. He's a player, you see

You can tell Torts determines lineups based on quality and not age/type bias when you see how many games Deslauriers played.
This irks me as a large part of justifying d-lo is that you are icing a lot of young guys and you don't want to be pushed around. With the amount of seasoning this team has they should be able to fend for themselves

Do not agree with your 2nd yes.

Let me ask you this, do you think they should have kept a spot on D open and let the younger guys battle against each other (therefor at least 1 is in the lineup) instead of vets they have very little shot of unseating.

The York-bulked-up-too-much excuse is the most inane bit of fan fiction you've ever come up with.

The only reason Zamula stayed on the team ahead of York was because Torts went after York in camp on multiple occasions and then punished him for not responding the "right way" to his verbal abuse. The fact that Torts tried to get in York's face and was unhappy with how the 21 year old California kid responded, was confirmed in comments by Bill Meltzer on his blog.

The idea that this team thinks there's such a thing as bulking up too much is a funny one.

Because he didn't grow up eating lead paint chips like Tortorella, he has too much restraint. Tortorella is a psychotic lead-addled idiot and thought that was a problem.

People talk like LHV is a long way away and it's impossible for a player to be promoted.

It's a short car ride, Briere will be in the stands more than once, and players will have numerous opportunities to win a job, TC, injury call-ups and just plain showing you're too good for the AHL.

you didnt answer the question.

Barring an injury they are LHV bound all year or at least until January 2024.

They are not going to have an opportunity on training camp. Why do you have a hard time seeing this to be the case. Seeler and Staal no matter how they play in camp will be in the starting 6.
