There's also value, #29 just isn't that valuable, slightly more than a 2nd rd pick, but significantly less than a pick in the 16-25 range.
The four tiers generally in the 1st rd are 1-5, 6-15, 16-25, and 26+.
The 2nd would be Toronto's, which will probably be in the 50s.
So if the Flyers had to take a salary dump back (and St Louis was trying to dump salary), then it wasn't a great deal.

If he'd been traded for 29 you'd be crooning about its supreme value.

They would’ve known the board at #25 or #29. They weren’t trading for a probable late 1st at the deadline, which would’ve still worked for me. They would’ve made that trade knowing exactly who was available at that pick. It’s not a number at that point — it’s a list of names. Musty, Brindley, etc. Or it could’ve been used as ammo for a trade up, looking at certain fallers (ASP, Moore).

well the newly hired co-GM said he was open for business. A players value isn't going to change because it is known he is available.

He wasn't shopped. They were fielding offers and set which looks like a price that would not be met.

i don't buy the cap dump theory with any Laughton trade. Expecting a late 1st is very realistic. They just simply do not want to trade him until they see how the season goes. I hope it bites them in the ass big time.
I don't buy the "straight up trade" theory with that rumored return.

Expecting a late first at the deadline seems reasonable. Maybe even a little more because teams tend to overpay at the deadline, especially for someone with a Laughton-like cap hit in this cap environment. But a 1st + a 2nd straight up for Laughton in this draft, when GMs were treating their 1st rnd picks like gold? In the summer when the market is more tepid? I really doubt it. That seems like a massive overpay.

I can't see any team that lets it be known they're willing to move a player not taking an offer that's at the absolute top of the range.

If they actually viewed Laughton the way you are acting like they view Laughton, the communication would've been very simple "we're willing to listen on anyone except Cutter and Laughton". There's a reason Cutter was listed as their only untouchable.

I really hate that I see the video of Angelo's stupid monkey face staring at me every time I look at the Flyers page on CF.

Barring a trade the club has eleven defensemen that have some sort of chance to make it to opening night; Sanheim(L); Ristolainen(R); Walker (L/R); York(L/R); Steal(L); Zamula(L/R); Seeler(L/R); Andrae(L); Ginning(L); Attard(R) and Grans(R). Which of these guys do you feel will make the club? I'm going with:
Sanheim-Ristolainen
Walker-York
Seeler-Andrae
Staal
Zamula, Attard, Ginning and Grans to LHV.
I don't see Ginning or Grans with a realistic shot of making the club this season. Also I don't see much value for Z or Attard to spend the year in LHV. It's time for them to be in the show. Andrae will probably make the team because if he doesn't, he has to go back to Sweden for the year which I don't think that the Flyers want to see happen.

Sanheim-Ristolainen
Walker-York
Seeler-staal

Zamula is my guess.

The rest have zero shot unless an injury or trade. IMO

Zamula is coming back from shoulder surgery and Attard is waiver exempt. There's no logjam on D.

Really, Seeler should have been traded before the draft/free agency when his value will be higher.

I expect

Sanheim/York
Staal/Risto
Seeler/Walker
Zamula

This is regardless of whether or not Andrae played well enough to earn a spot and the risk of him going back to Sweden.

Andrae is our most promising Dman...so you know theyll screw it up with him. Hes too small to be a torts guy.

I think we see another couple of depth signings or camp invites. Torts hates youth and skill.

Where does this delusion with Torts and size come from. St Louis and Atkinson were mainstays for him.
There's zero evidence that Torts puts an emphasis on size (Hextall was another matter).

If Andrae has to go back to the SHL, they may let him go rather than have a squeeze at the NHL level, unless, of course, he's so good in camp to make the issue moot. It won't hurt him to play big minutes in the SHL.

York - Walker
Sanheim - Risto
Seeler/Zamula/Attard
Staal

Torts likes Zamula and he's out of options, he's a lock.
Attard is more of a ???, if they're not comfortable with him he could end up in LHV for more seasoning.
Right now they're stuck with Sanheim and Risto, so they'll try to make the most of them.
Walker is probably the most likely RHD partner for York, don't think they're ready for a Zamula - York pairing.
Walker and Seeler are TDL candidates.

The smart move would be to carry 8 as Andrae has to go overseas and zamula needs to clear waivers. I wish I had the confidence in these young guys to put walker and risto on the chopping block

It's incredible how bad you are at predicting what the Flyers will do.

Walker averaged the second fewest ES minutes of all these dmen, (barely ahead of Seeler) and is known for being weak defensively, and yet you have him on the top pairing of a Torts coached team.

3. Sanheim - 18:03 ES TOI/GP

1. York - 17:30 ES TOI/GP

4. Risto - 16:06 ES TOI/GP

7. Staal - 15:35 ES TOI/GP

2. Walker - 13:39 ES TOI/GP

5. Seeler - 13:28 ES TOI/GP

I'd say there's zero chance Staal isn't on the roster. There are no spots for prospects. They sealed that off at F and D as always, because everything is the same as ever.

Ugh. I forgot about Seeler. I still can't believe f*** Face didn't trade him last year.

An 8 man defense and the melding of 3rd/4th lines into a single unit would be the Flyers jumping the shark. I hope they do it for maximum chaos.

Let's give Torts what he really wants.
