For an owner who only won Cups in a 18 team league, Mr. Ed gets far too much hero worship.

Snider accepts blame of the blame for this costly error, as well, for publicly venting during and after the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs about the Flyers' long-time goaltending issues. After watching the Flyers continuously switch three goalies in playoff series against Buffalo and Boston - seven in-game goalie changes were made during this stretch - Snider angrily vowed this issue had to end.

A month later, the Flyers acquired Bryzgalov’s rights in a trade with Phoenix, then they quickly signed the unrestricted free agent to the big deal.

“I was responsible,” Snider said, “Not for picking (Bryzgalov) ... I was responsible for saying we can't have this goalie situation like we had."

It's ultimately Snider's fault that he gave a certain set of alumni nearly infinite leeway to turn the team into their own plaything, and he was apparently the only one interested in holding them accountable occasionally.

There are way, way worse owners, of course.

If the cap goes up $1m, they have about $7m to sign Attard, Cates, Frost and York if they don't want to start the season on LTIR. Obviously, this is prior to any trades.

LOL... totaly on brand..

#buckleup

Total clickbait:

"With this news, fans of the Philadelphia Flyers are speculating whether the team should consider offering Perry a league minimum contract."

Why would the Flyers want Perry? Doubt at this point he'd have any value at the TDL.
The only veterans they should be bringing in are waiver wire auditions (Forsling types) or guys you can flip at the TDL (Braun in 2021-22).

Tortorella disagrees with you. He wants to add 10-12 goal PK specialists.

The real reason that Perry move won't happen is that he has no reason at this stage to play for a dick-idiot

Flyers right now just need to accumulate assets, they're actually building good forward depth, defense a little more shaky, less I think about talent than the right talent that fits together.

The two major needs going forward is a top playmaking center and a top RHD.
Not sure they'll be able to draft either, but if they accumulate assets, at some point you'll have the opportunity to trade for one.
And if you draft/trade for enough prospects, odds are you'll eventually get lucky.

With Farabee, Gauthier, Cates at LW, Tippett, Foerster, Brink [TK] at RW, Couts, Frost at center, add that center and you have a solid forward group.
If Gauthier could become that center, finding a LW is a lot easier than finding a top center.
If they can only add a 2C type, then they'll need to go three lines deep and match quality with fresh legs.

With York, Sanheim, Andrae, Zamula at LHD, Attard, Risto, Sansom at RHD, add a top RHD and you can keep York at LHD and move the others down. It's a lot easier to find a 2RHD than a 1RHD if Attard or Samson can't improve or Risto become a consistent defender.

Before they can have good forward depth they need actual top end forwards. You know the easiest way to build good depth? Keep bringing in good players that push each other down the lineup. Identifying the overlooked gems is hard, and well beyond this team's skill level.

The Flyers meanwhile backfill until the dumpster overflows upwards. The full opposite process. And that's what Tortorella has stated he wants; not more talent, more backfilling with PK specialists. The garbage shall flow up rather than the talent flowing down.

Yeah the goal "should" be building talent so it pushes guys like Laughton and Cates down the lineup. Then you replace them with more young, cheap guys instead of paying them bigger money like we did with Laughton and will do with Cates.

Tough to accumulate assets when you trade away draft picks for shitty players. You've been told this multiple times, but why would you listen

Briere: "You can even look to a team like New Jersey, who was kind of spinning their wheels but they were rebuilding and doing it the right way. Then, boom, this year they pop and they're one of the best teams in the NHL," the Flyers' general manager said earlier this month after an introductory press conference. "I give them credit, they were patient, they didn't let the noise affect them. That's going to be the biggest — probably toughest — thing for us, is going to be stay patient and keep with the process that we believe in."

Jones: "3 years."

Tough to follow that strategy when the FO insists on "being competitive" and "aggressively reloading."
Given those constraints, I was happy with Fletcher until his 3rd season, only trading a 2nd and 3rd and Gudas away to make the playoffs.
Then he panicked and started bleeding assets as the team went into a death spiral.

Now whether they should have been trying to compete is another issue - but that's on Holmgren/Clarke/Barber who opposed any sort of rebuilding, and Hextall, who blew his window of opportunity when Snider approved a rebuild.
