A good example of Torts' inability to see past his expanding gut is the fact that Tippett got twice as much PK time as Frost.

Tippett was one the ice for a incredible 10 goals against in only 30:48.

Frost was on the ice for just two goals against in 15:46.

Player Season Totals - Natural Stat Trick

Some of the things he did last season makes it seem almost impossible that he wasn't trying to lose while also making it look to everyone else like he really wanted to win. The 2 dmen in overtime is another example. Was he secretly tanking? Nah, he doesn't deserve that much credit.

His absolute favorite players were a dude who'd be a 3rd liner on a good team and a guy who is probably a 4th line winger on a good team, instead of a top 6 center here.
Don’t forget the shitty, (supposedly) physical Dman who cost us Ghost and way too many picks.

You know, it’s hard to be an inept enough GM to acquire Hayes, Fisto, Tony D and Nic D; Cuck was truly special.

The management group that combined to be unsure of whether or not they should move Seeler at the TDL is still running the show. I cannot figure out how anyone conjures a scrap of hope.

Holy shit I forgot about the Seeler debacle.

Now you just know he's going to be a turd on skates this year as a pending UFA so when Briere goes to move him the get a 7th back.

...or do Torts and Jonesy convince them to extend Gorilla Glue Seeler?

Yeah, that incident is way more concerning than the JVR failure. That was entirely on Fletcher. Presumably the collaborators concurred on trading him. That was the correct conclusion. Fletcher just completely f***ed it up.

But they couldn't decide if they should sell Seeler? That's not great.

They should have been shopping half the roster but Cuck sleeps in til noon, hits the early bird at 3:30 and is in bed by 6 so he could only do so much.

The amount of ice time that Torts gave Tippett down the stretch was ridiculous. I mean you’d think he was the 2nd coming of Gordie Howe by the way Torts used him.
What's the problem? Same way he pushed TK (putting him on the PK, etc.) he pushed Tippett.
Some of this is seeing what a player can handle in terms of stamina, focus and different roles.
I mean they are rebuilding, aren't they?

There is a middle ground where "active" ownership can still be a valuable thing.

We don't need an owner dictating trades, but we do need an owner (or, well, "governor") who is actually interested and engaged, and is therefore willing to step in when results don't show.

Leonsis is the example of too detached.

We are in a middle place that is hellish.

But Clarke and his cronies aren't the owners. Yes, I know they operate as if they're owners but Comcast is the owner and NO ONE is asking for them to have more control.
I don't think that's who Charlie is talking about though. I think he's talking about the "Snider would never!" portion of the "Sell the team!" section of the fanbase.

Well the "Sell the team" portion of the fanbase is a bunch of morons.

I can't tell you how many "Snider would never" bullshit comments i've heard from STH's about the stupidest shit like Gritty or other business adventures.

Ed Snider would do all of those. He was a businessman.

For an owner who only won Cups in a 18 team league, Mr. Ed gets far too much hero worship.

Snider accepts blame of the blame for this costly error, as well, for publicly venting during and after the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs about the Flyers' long-time goaltending issues. After watching the Flyers continuously switch three goalies in playoff series against Buffalo and Boston - seven in-game goalie changes were made during this stretch - Snider angrily vowed this issue had to end.

A month later, the Flyers acquired Bryzgalov’s rights in a trade with Phoenix, then they quickly signed the unrestricted free agent to the big deal.

“I was responsible,” Snider said, “Not for picking (Bryzgalov) ... I was responsible for saying we can't have this goalie situation like we had."
