You guys gotta stop doing this to yourselves. Seriously.

Nope. CF was dead man walking at that point, it's obvious Hilferty had already been in place as Scott's successor, Briere was lined up for the job - all CF did was accelerate the inevitable.
It was Torts who opened up the eyes of the Comcast executives to how bad things really were, no more sugar coating by Scott.
They aren't trading the only guy who wore a letter under God Emperor Torts. It took a village of idiots to mire this team in mediocrity.
It began with Holmgren, then Hextall, then Fletcher. Plenty of blame to go around.
Love or hate Torts, he's the one who tore the band-aid off and exposed the wound.
And he's the one who's set the agenda of a long-term rebuild.
What makes this interesting is there's an outside chance this team could make the playoffs next year, AFTER letting JVR walk and trading Hayes, Laughton and Provorov. Depends on three factors:
1) health of Couts and Atkinson
2) return on trades (prospects picked up)
3) short-term patches in free agency and on waivers
Couts at 100% is a game changer.
Farabee - Couts - TK
Tippett - Frost - Atkinson
??? (Lycksell) - Cates - Foerster
Deslauriers - Desnoyers - Allison
??? - York - ???
Sanheim - Risto
Seeler - TDA
Zamula - Attard
Hart/Ersson
The good news is I think Torts/Briere know even if this team squeezed its way to 95 points or so, they know it's not a SC contender and will continue to rebuild. So they're not going to make the "win now" moves that plagued this team for a decade.
JVR?Laughton is a good bet to be traded, he'll be 29. Cates is already a better version (note they tried Laughton at 3C before Torts moved Hayes back to center).
I think JVR, Hayes, Laughton and Provorov will all be moved before the draft.
Just so he can say he was right on one because he's already been movedJVR?

But without moving Laughton's massive cap hit, how will get the room for the big free agents they aren't signing? They aren't trading the only guy who wore a letter under God Emperor Torts.
When was the last time a team traded three large contracts like that in a single off season?Laughton is a good bet to be traded, he'll be 29. Cates is already a better version (note they tried Laughton at 3C before Torts moved Hayes back to center).

Laughton isn't that big ($3M), Hayes seems to be wired to CBJ, Provorov has two years left so he shouldn't be that hard to move.
Given the paucity of RHDs in the system, and meager returns, Risto is secure for at least one more season. TDA and Sanheim may not be moveable. TK and Hart are unlikely unless someone "makes an offer you can't refuse."

No loss. He had a solid but nothing special season in his third KHL season, so he projects at best as a 4th line NHL forward. Has improved his defense,
53rd in the KHL in scoring. Respectable but no more given his age and experience.
Jordan Weal at 31 was 30th. But he did outscore Corbin Knight.
Three years in the KHL and an aging Weal outplays you.Chris Stewart was his most common linemate 5 on 5. An excellent job by the Flyers as usual.
"It's a good thing the Flyers development process is trash, because in this case it wouldn't have mattered."Three years in the KHL and an aging Weal outplays you.
I think there was nothing there to develop.
Didn't skate well enough to be a top 9 forward, didn't use his big body (soft as a marshmallow).
