This is turning into a tough call for the Bruins here. Should it be Mercer instead of Lindholm?
Lindholm provides more experience, better face off percentage. The dropoff in scoring is concerning me. He has basically played himself off the major scoring lines.
Mercer fits in better with the time line of prospects developing and his scoring totals are more impressive given they are accomplished in the middle 6. But is he really a center? His face off percentage isn't great and according to advance stats his line is in a negative goal differential when he centers it as opposed to being the winger on that line. It sounds a bit like Zacha albeit with a better motor under the hood.

Which way do we go? Make a move at all around Ullmark, JDB or stay put and try to acquire a piece as FA in off-season versus spending assets? All things considering, I view the season so far as a positive. They are clearly a play off team albeit the early season steam has evaporated some. I don't think many of us expected to be even in this place. We may not be a cup contender but at least we will get an extended season where everything is possible. However, I think it should be the season beyond this one that the sights should be set on by Sweeney. It's time to build something instead of patching holes.

For me is Lindholm.

With Sway and the rest of the team in front of him, we will still be very competitive for years to come. It also gives us a lot of flexibility up front as Zacha can play LW and then you can slowly develop Poitras.

Nothing against Mercer, but I personally don't see him being a consistent top 2, and with Lindholm he's proven to be elite. Buy low and be happy.

Excellent post Finnbear

Earlier I said I would be ok with a low key deadline, and I still would be. But I forgot how agonizing it is to see other teams get excited over new additions while we still haven't done anything. I want a shiny new toy, dammit.

There was a time.

I always admired how he played the game.

You don’t post enough.

I still think Ullmark doesn’t get moved and if he does, it happens in the summer.

I just don’t see it.

Then again I am just a fan posting on a message board. So take that for what you will

This is my thinking too. I think they can beat TO, but not FLA or NYR. Figure how the deals help down the road and make them, considering what we gave up LY (which I was in total agreement with) and how the cupboard is bare now. I criticized Sweeney a lot, but I know he goes for it with trades but his hands might really be tied this year. That could be a blessing in disguise down the road. I do think moving Jake is a must as he won’t resign here and I think the Bruins will look to move on, so get something now for him.

Matt Hunwick fell on the butt end of his stick in 2010 and lacerated his spleen. Depending on the angle you get hit at, it is fairly easy to do.
Regardless still think these rules need to change, shouldn't be hard to implement something to curb putting guys on LTIR and miraculously coming back round 1 while still not punishing players/teams that are legitimately hurt.

I agree but this time next season Bruins be glad they never wasted assets with draft coming.

LTIR Should just count towards the cap anyway. Shouldn’t be any way to circumvent it. If that’s a problem for the owners , just raise the cap number

Huge fan of Mercer. He’d be a great addition.

Have to move on from Ullmark and get something for him. One goalie is enough when you have this many holes.

Have to keep your first round pick

Have to move Gryz so you aren’t forced to bench him or lose him to injury in the first round. Which is an annual event.
