It sucks when the draft rolls around and your team doesn't have any picks but I have no problem trading picks for ready made players that stick around. Trading picks for rentals not a fan.

Pittsburgh or Dubas has said they wanted a young roster player in return for Guentzel plus pick and prospect and he could replace some of Guentzel goal scoring to a lesser extent plus JDB would play with a line driving centre in Crosby..

Last thought is Dubas has seen DeBrusk first hand burn the Leafs in past so maybe he’s intrigued by acquiring him.

He’s also controllable for 6 weeks

And if he pays Jake to stay gotta think 8/56-64 M he could have just paid Guentzel

He probably should’ve sat back for his first year and evaluate his talent before diving into Karlsson and then he could’ve decide to blow it up more to coarse correct that team without taking heat.

DeBrusk has been excellent match up against Leafs and Dubas would be smart to grab Jake in case Penguins & Leafs meet in playoffs

Guentzel will be 30 in October so I’m assuming they didn’t want to give him a long term deal and he definitely will cost more then DeBrusk.

I can’t pretend to understand that roster it’s aging quick and they’ve overspent on questionable players on the wrong side of 30

Yea a 1st for a Pinto type deal I am in ,but not no Toffoli.
