When you are a player his size & you have carved out what he has as an NHL player you have to respect that .This is the hardest league in the world to play in.Yea we all want a bit more nasty with size on that back end but give the man a break here that's a bit harsh.
I don't care if he's more nasty. I want him to produce offensively. He just... doesn't. So at this stage, if he's not physical, can't clear a crease, is scared of contact and can't contribute offensively, what does he do?

The Boston Bruins are gearing up for what should be an eventful 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Given their shaky play as of late, the expectation is that they will look to make some additions to their group by March 8.

While former big-name trade targets like Elias Lindholm and Sean Monahan found their new homes earlier this season, it would still not hurt for the Bruins to browse the market for help down the middle. The Nashville Predators have a pretty intriguing option in Tommy Novak.

Novak, 26, has generated some chatter in the rumor mill. It is understandable, as he is a pending UFA on a retooling Predators team that could be sellers at the deadline. With that, he has a highly affordable $800,000 cap hit, which adds to his appeal as a rental for a team with limited cap space like Boston.

In 50 games this season with Nashville, Novak has 12 goals to go along with 32 points.

Well obviously people running the Bruins saw something because he has been there 8 yrs.And yea he only has 8 pts I believe but he is still somehow a + 5. You need to relax the deadline is a week away and he has no contract so probably getting your wish anyway .

Gryz has been solid for us his entire time here aside from this season and dealing with some injuries in the playoffs. He does not deserve the hate he gets here because of his size. For the last 4 years, no one on this team was better at retrieving pucks and alleviating forecheck pressure.

Now clearly this year he’s not the same. My guess is it’s recovering from injuries and overall nerves over his contract. Understandable.

Me personally I’m ok with trading him if an upgrade is coming our way. Frankly I also wouldn’t mind resigning him at a very team friendly deal.

I think the ship has sailed on him coming back, but agree with the rest of the post. He is the kind of D who will suffer greatly when he loses a step and his ability to take a pounding will only get worse. Feel like he was super undervalued around here by many, but it’s also time to move on.

I'm relaxed. I'm just calling it as I see it.

Logan Stankhoven just entered the league and has 3 goals and 1 assist in 4 games.

I remember him and Lysell being the two best players on the ice in their WHL playoffs matchup.

I'd love to see Lysell get his shot if we don't dish him at the deadline.
I think literally everyone except Monty agrees.

Dump Gryz and Forbort for whatever you can get. Trade Debrusk for a pick or picks, fill his spot with Tarasenko or Eberle. Add Middleton on the backend. At this point I want him if signed more than Hanifin. See what Columbus wants for Olivier. I’d trade Ullmark if the right deal presented itself, but I don’t think it will so the juice wouldn’t be worth the squeeze so might at well hold him and move on at the draft. Also not sure what’s available but adding a face off specialist would be ideal. Not saying these moves make them cup favourites but definitely improved. After all at the start of the season if you told me with 21 games left the Bruins would be tied for the most points in the whole league I’d have been ecstatic. So I don’t think tearing it down trading roster pieces for picks sends a great message.

Lauko- Bogvist- Brazeau/Olivier

Novak would be an excellent fit and he could bring some of his friends from Nashville, Smith, McCarron, Lauzon, Trenin, Sherwood. Any and all would be nice additions

Don't dislike Novak, not sure he's the type of center Sweeney would target. He's pretty terrible defensively.

How much would Middleton cost?
Probably more then he's worth cause he plays big minutes for the Wild. On a good team he probably should be a 5D.

Put Heinen on Novak's line and DeBrusk or a better scorer they acquire and he would be fine. Middleton would play top 4 minutes here, allows them to move Lohrei to bottom pair with Wotherspoon and give Lohrei Power Play time.

I've been kinda going back and forth on what I want the bruins to do all season long. When the season started I wanted them to make no moves at the deadline, just accept that this is a transition year and ride with what you have while getting the kids some playing time. Then we were in first for so long that I started to feel like maybe this team was worth investing in at the deadline, but this stretch of games has me reverting back to the first mindset. Keep Lohrei in the lineup, get Beecher back on the forth line, and get Lysell in the top 6. See what happens, at worst you get those guys valuable playoff experience. But I feel like this team is more then an Alex Wennberg away from going on a deep run, so I'd rather they keep their assets and get the young guys more experience. Maybe even see what Gryz can get you on the market and try to get a third pair RD upgrade at most, like I know some people here don't like him but Gryz is an objectively better player then Lyubushkin and he got a third. I like the idea of Carrier that was mentioned, I think by Dom (correct me if I'm wrong).

No deep run with that lineup. that line up is only capable of drowning in a shallow pool.

You have a link where Monty says this?

When we brought him in, part of the value add was that we now have someone who would play and develop the kids.

Now that Lysell is playing a mans game the right way, it really does behoove us to play him and give him a shot.

My theory is that he is being held in the AHL, where he's actively producing at a high clip, in order to preserve his value as a trade chip.

If he's in our system after the trade deadline, and doesn't get some games up in the show I'll be irate.

Players need to earn a shot, not be given one because of their draft ranking.

The fact that Richard was called up over Lysell speaks volumes. Add that to the less-than-positive remarks by Mouginel, his coach, earlier in the season and you might be seeing why he has not gotten a call-up yet.

And my original response was to address the fact that it is not in fact Monty's decision on who gets called up or not. I am quite sure its the front offices who talk directly to the Providence staff to determine who should get the time up.

I've counted at least 3 times this season they could have called up Lysell and have chosen not to. I just don't see that being to cap reasons.
