Boston Bruins 2023-24 Roster and Salary Cap Discussion VII

What makes you think he's unwilling or not committed to put the work in?
I believe this is his second season in the AHL. If the head coach said what he said, as sharply as he did, I suspect there's something behind that assessment.

My understanding is that he has not regressed, nor has he progressed significantly.

I realize some players take longer to develop than others. But at this point he should have a better idea of what is expected. I'm not sure he does.

I could be totally wrong. That's just what I see from 20,000 ft.

I probably did a poor job explaining my kids comment. I agree the coach is paid to win, and in his defense he is gone if he doesn't, but there needs to be some consistency with a team. I do not think taking some one out like Beecher, for another player that does even less, Beecher has done for the most part a good job on faceoffs, and he does kill penalties and do think he does need to be more physical and hopefully that will come. I apologize if I did not explain my self all that well.

You explained your position well.

I like John Beecher and he's a keeper in that role. But, as with the rest of a rookie fourth line - - who is responsible for that? -- he has his off days.

I don't know enough to quibble overly about Montgomery's insertions and deletions on a given line. I just wish he would stick to one or two for more than a single game or shift.

The approach is disorientating for players. It may not be as capricious as it seems to me, but the practice contributes to a lack of stability.

There's nothing about Mogenel's call out that referenced work ethic, at least from what I saw. He said that Lysell needs to stop trying to do too much on his own, like trying to beat 4 defenders at once instead of making a smarter play like waiting for teammates to arrive.
From what I know that's true.

When I say work, I don't mean physical effort. I mean, is he willing to do what they want him to do overall in terms of his approach to the game?

Is he willing to change his game and, as Conor Ryan' might say, pull on the same rope as everyone else? To me, without getting silly about it, this is a question of maturity. I'm no expert. Obviously.

Of course it's maturity in his game that he needs to focus on. And it looks like he's taken his coach's message to heart.

He's a 20 year old prospect who's in his formative years as a pro. I would not be so quick to make any sort of definitive statement about his willingness or his work ethic. He's done just about everything they've asked of him to do in the offseason ( not sure if you follow Behind the B's or not ) and as an offensive player, he's producing. I'd be more worried if your concerns about him were about his lack of points.

Fair enough.

Let's see what happens.

yep, I recall Pasta`s first few years in Boston, often did this himself, skilled players often do this, playing vs their own age group, often times they`ll dance their way around 3-4 players on the ice, vs NHL pro`s or AHL pro`s, just won`t work, Lysell finding out and from what I`ve read on here about his game lately, he has taken the coaches words to heart and has played well

Dom hints that Don is talking to Pat Verbeek again, Don and Pat are together at the Philly Washington game. Pat gets another Center prospect from the Flyers.

Now with another top line center prospect and a chance at Celibrini, what possible chances are there that the ducks actually trade Zegras? Id say he's on the outside looking in with Carlsson and McTavish already at the NHL level. I feel like they are getting higher.

IDK just wondering out loud.

The Sens Management already said they're looking for veterans to help Giroux with the young core.
So this is a pipe dream.

Crazy Giroux would want to ride that dumpster fire train all the way to the last station... Guy needs a legit shot at the cup

Even though I am a long time Bruin fan, who has really enjoyed the regular season last and into this year. Suffice it's to say the team this year is not a cup contender, it was supposed to be a transition year, and still is, despite the winning record.
I am very glad that their a few young prospects on the team, and seeing them grew into their roles on this team.
I personally don't want them to trade anymore future first to third round picks or trade the young men they have now for a rental or vet who may or may not stick around or want too much money.
Anyways just my two cents.

Why?

He can probably play as long as he wants, have a job in the org when he retires, not be in a crazy media market like Toronto or Montreal. I think hes from way northern Ontario. Doubt he would prefer to live somewhere like Arizona or in a trash US city like Columbus or Philly.

Some food for thought on giving up massive packages for a top 6C. Many of us were clamoring for Dubois this offseason. After his massive trade and subsequent signing he currently has 16 points, which is less than: Geekie, Frederic, Coyle, Zacha AND is only one more than Poitras. Crazy how things shift in the league, lots of teams may have dodged a bullet on him and our centers have outplayed him.

Now surely he'll bounce back, maybe next year after some familiarity with the Kings....

Alex Iafallo and Gabe Vilardi both have 17 points for the Jets. What a let down PLD has been so far.

Coyle is also on pace for 28g and 32a for 60+ pts. Bergeron put up similar numbers last year. It is still not lost on me how well the Bruins played against FLA in the playoffs with Coyle and Zacha carrying the load at C while Bergeron and Krejci were injured.

Zegas and Pasta would be a lot lot lot lot lot of fun together. Just no idea what the Bruins send over. DeBrusk (with contract) + ??? Don't think that is enough. Don't think that would be the real target, but I would be excited if I was wrong. Just seems like what the Ducks really need is vets that are young enough to play with the young core at wing.

I feel like Henrique, Vatrano or even Lyubushkin are more likely targets.

Like Gryz + Forbort out, Hanifin + Lyubushkin in could be done in a salary neutral way with retention. Obviously, what else the Bruins give up is TBD but...

Lindholm McAvoy
Hanifin Carlo
Lorhei Lyubushkin

... seems to make sense as a D group now and going forward. It's also easy to see how slipping Henrique or Vatrano into the middle six improves the depth.

edit: Ducks don't really need D until its a true top pairing RD. And that ain't happening.

I just don't trust his GF% numbers to continue to beat out the horrendous Corsi, Shot, and Scoring Chance numbers. He is just too often outclassed against top competition. I'm not surprised he is scoring in a bigger role in the slightest. Just think the Bruins end up giving up a lot against top competition right now.

Agreed this season is a surprise and much more enjoyable than anticipated but this is not a cup team. We really need to add something to the prospect capital. It's crazy that we already don't have our top three pics from this year.
