7 Million for JDB? Some of you are out of your minds. Sweeney will be lucky to find a taker at 5.5. Jake, his agency and his dad will ask for at least six million, and I hope fervently that some sucker trades for him at that money.
On the open market there is always a sucker, hell we've been the sucker more than once ..but I agree in an ideal world I'd like him signed at way less than $7M. He's no bum but nor can he carry a line.

Really? seems common sense to me, they're tight ..thick as thieves family, and Louie has experience ..I'm certain Jake solicits his advice and I'm certain Louie would tell him not to marry the first girl he met ..lots of fish in the sea

No, it's not common sense. Unless you have proof that Louie is acting as Jake's agent any more than any other parent of a mid-20s NHL player acts as their agent, then including him in the discussion as if he were Hamilton's or Donato's intruding, controlling parents is unfair. My father and I were thick as thieves, but I never asked him about any job or paycheck I earned past my 18th birthday, and he never commented on them either. I suspect it's the same for someone in the NHL, especially since they all pay an agent to do that for them.

Here is my fear with JDB and this is coming from someone who likes him, probably more than most.

I think deep down he wants to play closer to home (which I respect because I think every New England kid should want to play here ) but he‘d be will be willing to stay here if the Bruins hit a certain number.

My fear is that the Bruins will hit that number and Jake will sign, somewhat reluctantly, and realize at some point that he should have taken the opportunity to go west.

I don't get the feeling that Jake is super independent ... he can't even pack his suitcase ...

Managers do a lot of unwise things in free agency. Not a betting man but it wouldn't surprise if someone gives Jake seven and term. Even if the goals are not there this season.

I certainly wouldn't pay that. But we're not talking about me.

We're talking about GMs who see what they want to see.

That is very true. All roads probably lead to EDM in the summer-if not before. Again, we shall see.

He might well be happier with a fresh start elsewhere at good money and term.

He might also be tired of being a punching bag (or punch line) for a famously testy fan base.

Go West, young man. And good luck.

I know you want to waive him Rico. We get that you don’t like the player at all. You’ve made this point like a thousand times.
like him or not - if youre sweeney at the deadline and the extension discussions are stalling - say jake wants more than 1 million more than youre willing to spend on him per year - are you hanging on to him or are you dealing him for picks/pieces? that feels like the question to me - we obv dont know the discussions that have gone on and either sides actual interest levels

Absolutely. But we’re not alone - Florida with Reinhart, Tampa with Stamkos and especially Toronto with Nylander are all in the same boat.

One of the issues I have with paying Jake is it's setting dangerous president for Frederic's next contract negotiation .. I do not think 20 goal scorers deserve that type of money.
Understood, but at the moment I consider Jake a far better player than Frederic .What would you consider Frederic's next contract value to be?

sure but the biggest difference is that out of the four players/teams, the bruins can probably afford any of the 4 next year. while tampa and toronto are going to be up against the cap and florida can handle some salary increase there but not too much prolly.
Florida has a ton of cap room next year. More than the Bruins. Tampa can afford Stamkos for sure but it will hamstring them. Toronto is absolutely screwed, which pleases me.

They'll pay Willie close to $11M and suffer for a year until Pajama pant's contract is over.

Why is Jake always the guy who wants to go closer to home? He’s never once said anything about it. It’s weird projection.
I think it has to do with the mental aspect of his game. Folks might be drawing a comparison to Lucic wanting to go to a team closer to home for reasons.

In my opinion, something is off with DeBrusk, and he seems to be fighting through something. Whether it's mental or physical, who knows, but at some point, the law of averages say he should get out of his slump soon. I think the questions surrounding his fit on the team, inconsistency, and future based on his contract are fair. It would be ideal if he starts showing he's the DeBrusk we all know because Zacha and Pastrnak can use that player on their line.

Jake is a tough decision. He’s chronically inconsistent and will likely miss 20% of the season with injuries, but he’s also clutch and absolutely can “turn it on”. Several times a year you’ll wonder where he’s been.

He’s also very complementary. He needs to be the “3rd wheel” on a top 6 line with two other great players. He has done that job well, but I just struggle to give more than 5-5.5m for that kind of player… especially one on a less than .5 PPG clip this year. But I also struggle with our winger depth with him gone. Tough one for sure.

If the bruins are dishing out $7m AAV I want a bonafide 30 goal scorer at those prices. Not someone with 30 goal potential that misses 1/6 of their career games and averages 20 goals a year. And certainly not someone who actually has never hit the 30 goal mark.

If they did move him it'd have to be as part of a package to get a guy that can help right now, cause good luck trying to sell the locker room on trading a well like top 6 winger for futures while we're in first place and trying to contend. Personally though, I don't see him getting moved even in this scenario. We just don't have the wing depth and you just can't count on other guys making it to free agency to fill those holes.

Which is why he pays an agent. There's absolutely zero proof Louie DeBrusk has had any influence, internal or external, on Jake's career. Zero. To suggest he has is rumor mongering, not to mention against the rules of this site.
