Need to add some toughness so they stop getting pushed around & have some push back.
That Columbus game was embarrassing.

Forbort's fine for what he is. 3rd pairing shutdown, excellent pk'er. Pretty sure he could beat Gryz in a race right now.

Personally, I'd like to add a forward that can bring toughness. Not "grit" like Bertuzzi/Hathaway.

Thought the Shatty/Forbort pairing was pretty good early on. Def looks bad now. Shatty lately looks to be playing like Stralman last year. Beer league effort.

Forbort was on a PDO bender - in short, quite lucky overall, and he's coming down to earth.

Forbort-Shattenkirk is at 45% xGF%, and they are 4GF, 4GA. Forbort without Shattenkirk is at 9GF 2GA, with a 49% xGF%.

If you will rail against any analytics, the eye test of Forbort-Shattenkirk has been terrible.

However, Forbort has been even worse with Mitchell.
To be fair...everyone has. Up until recently, Forbort has been playing simple effective hockey...whcih is what you want from him. Lately, though...EGAD.

I agree - he had an unsustainable run of decent play early. He's now finding his normal level of poor play.

PDO is a measure of luck. It is calculated by adding the on ice Shooting% and the on ice SV% (for a player, or a team, or a line). Obviously, if you roll it up to the entire NHL, it always adds up to 100 (since a shot on goal either goes in or is saved).

Regression towards that 100 number always happens. An extreme high PDO for a season is above 103. In smaller sample sizes, you'll see bigger variances. Forbort early on was as high as 116. He's at 110 without Shattenkirk, and 103 with him. Both unsustainable numbers. Overall he's a 107, highest on the Bruins and 15th highest in the NHL. Lauko is at 97 for the lowest.

To further the example, Nils Hoglander is tops in PDO so far at 112 PDO (Forbort was well above that early on). His team shoots 14.75% while he's on the ice, while his goalies are at a 97% save percentage while he's on the ice. Both unsustainable numbers, especially the goaltending.

Overall, it means looking at just GF and GA is a bad way to evaluate a player, especially in small sample sizes.

Thanks for the explanation.

I think it’s also a little short sighted to say Zadorov is only marginally better than Forbort and won’t be worth it. That certainly could be true but we need to start looking at the bigger picture and how an influx of team toughness could impact the team as a whole.

Zadorov over Forbort/Gryz
Luke Kunin over Geekie
Trenin over Heinen

On the stat sheet it may look like a wash but a series of these moves doesn’t impact the offensive or defensive production of the team and gives them at least a damn back bone.

The Preds are curently in the second WC position in the West. Why are they trading these guys? It's not worth even talking about - would be the same talking about trading for Tom Wilson.

JVR needs to be load managed. get him some rest, and maybe he can get back to being the very useful player he was the first 10 games or so.
I agree. Shattenkirk also looks tired.

Again due to cap implication or "forcing" these vets to declare injury and take rests...

It would be better to callup Lohrei and one of Steen, Lysell, Farinacci.... if you want some more physicality...give Kuntar a look on the 4th line.

Hopefully Donny in on Hanny - he and McAvoy would be best pair in league. No way you give up Lohrei but Frederic could work

Heinen has been better than Frederic so far

If the asking price for Heinen is high I’d look at Zaradov - he’s not the brightest bulb and people fall in love with his size but with Poitras developing I would be willing to deal Merkulov for a rental/third pair type

I’ll interpret: ‘Monty may be overmatched in Boston’

I like it

Debrusk Zacha Pasta
Marchy Poitras Coyle
JVR Frederic Lysell
Heinen Beecher Geekie/Steen/Lauko

Lysell is doing great, get confidence, Bruins play like shit need to score...why not!
For the reasons everyone now is complaining about. He’s not going to bring a heavy game. He’s more of what they already have. When the opposition starts to pound him as well, who’s going to stick up for him? Leave him there to learn the game and what it takes. He’s got all the right tools, just needs North American lessons.

I'm not convinced either of those guys aren't better options than Mitchell or Shattenkirk.
They may be yes, but the cap space needed for Zadaorv and whatever the cost is acquire them, I would pass. If you can make a hockey deal use Shattenkirk, Forbort or Grizz in a 1 for 1 deal for a D that could be a better fit, then sure, but not giving up picks and whatever other assets for those guys.

Oh totally agree, I'm not going out giving up assets but rather i would make a lateral trade that maybe shakes up the style of player

So what could that Anaheim trade could be? I dont see a one and one because it doesnt look like that there is a player available that would improve the team. Maybe unloading a contract to improve the team with another trade? The best trade pieces right now should be Gryz and DeBrusk but who from Anaheim would be a upgrade on them?

BTW: it's to bad that Dom doesn't seem to post here much anymore. Hopefully it's only because he is busy with his projects. Would be a huge loss for this forum if he doesn't come back.

For sure, I would trade Grizz to a team looking for a guy that can skate in exchange for a tougher stay at home D, Zadorov, Tanev, my personal fav would be Hague from VGK along with Kolesar, but doubt they trade those guys, they are in a slump themselves though so who knows, but I would offer Grizz and Frederic.
