If I’m trading with Calgary, I bring in Zadorov and leave Hanifin right there. No need to continue the obsession with Mass born players.
My bigger concern is how Hanifin hits less then Carlo I even think Lindholm hit more last year nothing against his skill level but we can’t keep bring in these guys and paying them top dollar unless they’re lights out offensively.

On the Zadorov topic I can certainly see this being a need cause he brings an element we’re missing but the next contact is worrisome that’s for sure.

Either way on both cases we need money going towards a legit centre if there’s one available next year

I would be concerned as well with Hanifin , unless it's for Griz one for one no thanks

No mass players just ass players I guess.

Zadorov is maybe an upgrade on Forbort. Maybe. And you probably take a hit on your teams PK ability.

Zadorov will throw a couple hits but will lose his check more often than Forbort.

For a team that’s having defensive breakdowns left and right at the moment I idk why you want to get a player who’s going to exacerbate the problem

Most of the trades and players being suggested the Bruins trade for make the team worse IMO. If we make any deals it needs to be upgrades, the likes of Lybushkin, Zadarov etc, do not make us better.

I'm not convinced either of those guys aren't better options than Mitchell or Shattenkirk.

Forborts solidified his spot in the line up. It’s Gryz or Shattenkirk that would sub out

Zadorov is a LD and Shatt is RD so one wouldn’t replace the other.

With the way Gryz is playing right at this moment it’s possible Zadorov is better defensively. But we know Gryz right now is not in form and with no reason to assume he won’t regain it long term that’s a defensive downgrade

I don’t think Zadarov is the answer not because he’s not good but because he’s going to be a rental and most likely is highly sought after and whomever acquires him is going to overpay. So overpay on the trade in terms of assets then overpay on the contract long term.

Come playoffs I’d rather have Zadarov in over Gryz. Forbort can play his weak side as well.

Did Don have to spend up to the cap? Brown, Boqvist, Shattenkirk, JVR for example are not necessary signings imo. You could have got their level of production from Providence

Now you have little to no flexibility to sign someone decent off waivers or call up Lysell for example. Difficult to make trades.

I guess Don likes pain..... He just keeps putting himself in a bind. If I was Gold, I would be sick of it.

Brown, Boqvist, have already been waived with zero cap impact, although they do keep giving Brown chances. He doesn't add much in my opinion, but he doesn't kill you. they could waive Shattenkirk and JVR if they want, but won't. My point being none of these moves really had a big cap impact.

JVR needs to be load managed. get him some rest, and maybe he can get back to being the very useful player he was the first 10 games or so.

Maybe they need what Zadarov brings more, but Hanifin is the decidedly better player, and by a pretty wide margin, And honestly their contracts may not be that much different in the future (Hanifin may only get 15-25% more)

Something like Jake and Gryz out, Henrique/Silfverberg, Carrick, Lyubushkin in could be a deal. I'd want more in picks but I'm prepared to be underwhelmed given the black hole of a cap situation we're in.
Put that proposal in storage.

Forbort is generally a little better than average if, and only if, you pair him with a quick partner. Grz should be ideal, but isn't the way he is playing right now. Grz does seem to bring people down...Forbort and Shattenkirk is an utter disaster, and that is on Monty. I am not a fan of Forbort, but with the right partner he has his uses.

Gryz Forbort pairing has been a disaster in the past as well.

Could you please explain this?

Do you think they should be paired with someone else or that Shattenkirk shouldn't play at all?

Can't see how they are disaster. Forbort is still a +7 (2nd on the team) and they've played together a lot.

Gryz Forbort pairing has been a disaster in the past as well.

They are both primarily left Dmen.

Forbort was on a PDO bender - in short, quite lucky overall, and he's coming down to earth.

Forbort-Shattenkirk is at 45% xGF%, and they are 4GF, 4GA. Forbort without Shattenkirk is at 9GF 2GA, with a 49% xGF%.

If you will rail against any analytics, the eye test of Forbort-Shattenkirk has been terrible.

However, Forbort has been even worse with Mitchell.

So your saying Forbot needs to be paired with an NHL caliber defenseman. I agree with that. With the rumors DS is looking for a defenseman, I hope the plan is to let Shattenkirk ride off into the sunset. Or at least at a minimum give him a nice comfy rocking chair on the 9th floor for much of the remaining season

Forbort with Shattenkirk has been terrible. With Mitchell even worse.

Those are pretty much the only guys he plays with at even strength.

Guess its better to be lucky than to be good.

What's a PDO?

What's a PDO?
PDO is a measure of luck. It is calculated by adding the on ice Shooting% and the on ice SV% (for a player, or a team, or a line). Obviously, if you roll it up to the entire NHL, it always adds up to 100 (since a shot on goal either goes in or is saved).

Regression towards that 100 number always happens. An extreme high PDO for a season is above 103. In smaller sample sizes, you'll see bigger variances. Forbort early on was as high as 116. He's at 110 without Shattenkirk, and 103 with him. Both unsustainable numbers. Overall he's a 107, highest on the Bruins and 15th highest in the NHL. Lauko is at 97 for the lowest.

To further the example, Nils Hoglander is tops in PDO so far at 112 PDO (Forbort was well above that early on). His team shoots 14.75% while he's on the ice, while his goalies are at a 97% save percentage while he's on the ice. Both unsustainable numbers, especially the goaltending.

Overall, it means looking at just GF and GA is a bad way to evaluate a player, especially in small sample sizes.
