i sort of implied it in the post, but I went to hockey-reference, exported rosters from last year and this year to CSV, put them in google sheets, trimmed them down to their actual 20-man lineups using old GDTs and ran an average function on the age column. Much more relevant than whatever LWL is doing which probably includes extra players that are not really pertinent to this discussion. It's honestly more effort than you deserve, but you make these types of claims with such smugness that it's hard to resist correcting you.

You're welcome to do the same if you really wanted to check my work, but I cannot stress enough that you are overthinking this and it should be obvious under even the most basic scrutiny that they didn't get older.

They lost their 3 oldest players in Bergeron, Krejci & Foligno. The 3 veterans they signed to be regulars (JVR, Shattenkirk and Lucic) are younger than all 3 of them so they got younger even on the top end. When you consider the rest of the lineup is filled out with new guys like Poitras (19!), Beecher, Lauko, Geekie, Mitchell/Lohrei it should be plainly obvious that any source claiming their average age went up should be questioned.

But honestly, this is what's frustrating about debating anything with you. You start with a premise (in this case: "Sweeney lied about wanting to get younger") and then look for something, anything to prove your point (in this case a number you pulled from 1 website with minimal scrutiny) and then you cling to that one data point like it's gospel instead of just considering for a moment that your premise might be flawed.

PLEASE tell me how I’m taking a data point as gospel?

You just quoted a post where I said the exact opposite. I said “if someone can provide other sources that say otherwise then I’ll call left wing hockey and the other site trash”

I’m very willing to throw those data points aside.

I’m just not trusting your head math over the two sources.

Again provide a source and not your own math and I’ll gladly accept it.

Ok but what about the 13-14 players who remained on the roster from last year. That additional year per player offsets a lot of guys.
Lose Bergeron and Krejci, add Poitras and Beecher (huge decrease)

Lose Hall, add JVR (minor increase).

Lose Clifton and Zboril, add Shatty and Mitchell (minor increase).

Lose Bertuzzi add Steen (decrease).

Lose Nosek add Geekie (decrease)

Lose Orlov, don’t add (22 man roster).

What are we doing here?

Interesting that you two had similar arguments and ignored the same thing. We sure its not one person on two accounts?

No I gave two sources. I asked you to provide a source and you couldn’t except for the math you said you did on your own.

I’ll trust those two sources that have the same numbers over your math any day.

corey perry just hit unconditional waivers
"After an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of both the terms of his Standard Player's Contract and the Blackhawks' internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments. As such, Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers. In the event Mr. Perry clears waivers, we intend to terminate his contract effective immediately."

He clearly did something seriously wrong, so no one say we should sign him until more info comes out.

I wonder if there's any truth to the big rumor as to what that unacceptable conduct was that Perry engaged himself in.

I think everyone knows you're 100 percent correct with all of this. Bruins have infused the lineup with more rookies than last year. Anyone who thinks they aren't younger or aren't leaning on more of their youth this year than last is pretty clueless or just insistent on being intellectually dishonest about the topic.

Time to add some men on this D corp, land Shattenkirk far away from this team to the moon, trade Grze for pick, add Zadorov who want to quit Calgary, bring Ethan Bear who s healthy and ready

Lindholm Stallion
Zadorov Carlo

I mean it literally takes simple logic to understand that adding 3 full time rookies (zero Last season) and losing 3 of your oldest players makes this team younger, even if a bunch of 1 year vets and everyone aging one year are bringing the average age up for one season.

Bruins are trying to make the playoffs, not tank.

Bedard not going to be able to play in Chicago after this

Donny needs to move in and get him
Bedard and Poitras down the middle for the next 20+ years would be fun to watch. I don't think the Bruins have the assets to make a deal work.
Perry for league minimum isn't a terrible idea
It's still unknown what he did, but it has to be something pretty serious if he violated the terms of his Standard Player's Contract.

FWIW,

FWIW,

Why would Calgary trade zad for gryz? Seems like a strange move for them. Unless gryz is resigning there by chance.

They wouldn't, not straight up anyway. If Calgary plays this slow, Zadorov is the exact type of defenseman teams will overpay for to gear up for a playoff run. They can and will do better then a soon to be 30 pending UFA.

FWIW,

During that loss to the Canadiens on Nov. 11, there was some chatter that Bruins general manager Don Sweeney could look into a potential NHL trade fit with the Calgary Flames for rugged, puck-moving defenseman Nikita Zadorov, who a day earlier had requested a trade from Calgary.

“I look at the Bruins right now and the way they’re built – they’re big, hard on the forecheck and playing playoff style – I’m thinking Sweeney’s in on Zadorov,” an NHL source opined to BHN then. “I know for a fact Sweeney’s looked into him before. They’ve been listening on [Matt] Grzelcyk. That could be a great 1-for-1 one for guys headed for free agency?”

Why are we still sharing this stuff?

"Some chatter/Don ""Could"" look into"

Then they reference this "NHL Source" saying "I'm thinking Sweeneys in on Zadorov".

So the "chatter" they are basing this rumor off of is just a "source" *speculating* Don is currently interested in Zadorov.
