Invisible Bread - And the award for best double take of all time goes to…
How is his skating "Below NHL Average" lol... he flies past guys all the time. He's no Pavel Bure but his skating is not at all a weakness. His only "below average" trait is is his strength.

Yeah, he has blown by guys to score a nicty goal in the WJC and in the NHL.
He appears average as he's just scanning the situation like Getzy did in a way. He can improve surely but I'd say it's at least average

I assume Luneau missed the top 100.
Interesting. How has Luneau been viewed by EP before? Pronman doesn't seem to be high on Luneau, albeit reading his argumentation, I did not fully agree with him. I thought Luneau looked dominant at times.

They had him as the Ducks 13th ranked prospect going into last season. They had an article towards the end of the year praising him as one of the best players in the Q.

We are number one in his rankings and he didn't even include perreault nor Tracey.

I was reading other team's pool page and saw NJ's Josh Filmon ranked 6th in their pool. Filmon and Hvidston are on the same team with similar point production. Also, Myatovic is ranked 11th in our pool and with similar point production. I'm surprised Hvidston didn't get more love from Pronman to be ranked instead of being an honorable mention. Pronman went only went 15 deep in prospect rankings for the Ducks, but went 17 deep for the Blackhawks. I don't think the Hawks deserved to go 12 deep. lol

Yeah I thought the same thing but wasn't Pronman the one who said Z had below average puck skills or hands?
He was. And it was after at least the first WJC. Even at the draft it was clear he has ridiculous hands. He was praising his hockey sense, for example, so it wasn't like he was down on him, but come on

After the season he's had I'd say it's much more likely he's in top 25 than left out
Yeah, I agree, Luneau to me currently is more a top 50 prospect for sure and probably top 40, so if he’s top 25 it’s a bit surprising but to rank him under Lacombe and Moore would be odd.

I think he's average by the standard of other offensive players around the league, but not below NHL average. as others said, definitely room to still get quicker there and he might have to if he really wants to put up big numbers. I actually don't think his attitude/compete level is what is limiting his production right now at all, rather it's his speed and strength.

Kinda shocked that Luneau was left out, tbh I think they must have forgotten him, no way Moore is and honorable mention and he isn’t at minimum. And Moore has grown a lot on me in the last year. Even having LaCombe above him is a bit suspect. Mateychuk is top 25 and imo I think you could argue Luneau over him.

I’m not trying to be too critical tho, EP puts out good content. Something just doesn’t add up. Regardless of that 3 prospects in the top 15 is awesome. Zellweger 15th, Mintyukov 10th, and Carlsson 3rd.

Are there any other Q defensemen on the list?

It's nice seeing NCAA kids get some love.

Pronman's Ducks recent pool ranking has LaCombe (8th) ahead of Luneau (9th). I like Luneau a lot, but the knock on him is his skating. He's lacking that burst in his first few steps. LaCombe and Moore are faster than Luneau is now. Luneau is still in theprocess of regaining his lost burst from his knee surgery.

I don't know if I'd rank Moore above Luneau, but Moore has been receiving praise for years now.

All I know is that we're deep in blue line talent if EP is ranking Moore above Luneau.

HM Maverik Lamoreaux D
HM Joshua Roy F
91 Ethan Gauthier F
81 Zach Dean F
76 Zach Bolduc

That is every Q prospect on the list. Perhaps they are just super low on the Q. Which I somewhat get. But Luneau I think is the most valuable of all this listed. I know they split scouting up into regions and mostly defer to area scouts to speak up for when they think their guy should be ranked, perhaps the Q area scout isn’t a fan of Luneaus? Mix that with general Q skepticism and lack of explosive speed and perhaps he is just on the outside?

In terms of prospects for each CHL league

WHL - 19
OHL - 11
QMJHL - 5

The other two leagues had prospects all over the board while the Qs highest was 76th.

I have one other reason why they're skeptical on Luneau... consistent burn. We drafted Luneau in the middle of the 2nd round for a reason. Is Luneau a one-year wonder? The other players might be more consistent in their production progress.

  • RD Luneau, QMJHL
    • D-1: 31 games, 18 pts, -5 rating
    • D+0: 63 games, 43 pts, +9 rating (fell to the 2nd round)
    • D+1: 65 games, 83 pts, +49 rating

If Luneau can win the QMJHL D-man PotY again, then that should be enough to sway EP scouts to rank him higher.

Similarly, not a lot scouts and fans are on the F Hvidston hype. Hvidston is producing like Gaucher and Myatovic, but Hvidston has not a lot of love. In Pronman's recent Ducks pool ranking, Gaucher is 7th, Myatovic is 11th, and Hvidston is an honorable mention. All three are shutdown forwards with some offense.

  • LW/C Hvidston, WHL
    • D-1: not in WHL
    • D+0: 58 games, 32 pts, -5 rating (drafted in 5th round)
    • D+1: 59 games, 65 pts, +15 rating

Dunno if this was shared, but have a read:

We had one Duck in the top-25 and a few in the honorable mentions. (being vague so we can give Brock the clicks for his work)

I don't get the issues of skating. Sure he can get better, but I don't recall ever watching him and thought skating is slowing him down.

Also, regarding praise:

Very surprised he's left out. As @GunnarStahl mentioned, it seems their Q scout is not very optimistic for his league, and Luneau, lol.

Didn't he have a hip or knee injury that added to the concern?
