I think tracking goalie prospects (ours and around the league) is a blind spot for me.

How does Clara (and our other goalie prospects) look? Any have legitimate starter potential? Any in the upper echelon of league-wide goalie prospects?

Note: I am not considering Dostal in this conversation as I hardly consider him a prospect at this point.

Clara is (IMO) hands down the best goalie prospect in the system and a bona fide potential #1 down the road. Tremendous size and reflexes. There were draft watchers who thought that he had the most potential of any of the goalies drafted in '23. I did a little fist pump when the Ducks called his name at the draft.

Clara is our best one but also the youngest so it'll be awhile before he's in the NHL. Clang has been a bit inconsistent but has had some great performances and Suchanek is having an incredible start (but needs to be signed) and I think either could make the NHL. Buteyets is continuing to look good in Russia and I believe can come to NA after this season but who knows if he will or not. Alexander is struggling in Tulsa and is likely non-tendered next offseason

Prospect Update, Jan 21: Juniors

Jan 21, Juniors.png

- C Terrance: 2 games, 1g + 1a
- RW Pitre: 2 games, 2g + 2a, but -5 rating
- RD Smith: 3 games, 2a, but a -3 rating
- LD Dionicio: 3 games, 1g + 3a, but a -3 rating
- LW Myatovic: returned from injury; 3 games, 1g + 1a, and +4 rating

It's good to see Myatovic back. He was injured during the week of Oct 15-22. Myatovic might take a few games to get back into form and I expect he'll be putting up mad points again.

Prospect Update, Jan 21: NCAA

Jan 21, NCAA.png

- C Cutter (sophomore): 2 games, 3g + 1a, and +3 rating
- RW Colangelo (senior): 2 games, 1g + 3a, and a +4 rating
- RW Callow (freshman): 2 games, 1g + 3a, and +2 rating
- RW Perbix (5th year senior): Finally played a couple of games... 2 games, 0g + 1a

Callow's line (Johnson-Severo-Callow) was promoted from Harvard's third line to its second line last weekend, on Jan 13th. This weekend, that newly minted 2nd line produced a total of 9 points in two games!

Although Callow is a freshman at Harvard, this is his D+2 season. He was playing in the USHL last season. Anaheim could stash Callow for a couple more seasons while he continues to develop his offense. The Ducks drafted the 6'4 and 181lbs St. Sebastian's high school prospect in the 5th round of the 2022 draft.

Prospect Update, Jan 21: Europe and the NHL

Jan 21, Europe.png

- Buteyets earned a loss in 3-4 game against Khimik. His Sv% and GAA barely dipped despite allowing 3 goals.

- Clara: 3 games going 2-1-0. He finally is back into the 0.910+ zone again.

- The forwards went scoreless this past week. Galimov played in one game, while Sundsvik played two games and his hot scoring streak has stopped.

Clara Spotlight: In Sweden's 2nd tier men's league, Clara ranks 6th overall in Sv%, 1st overall in GAA, and tied at 1st in Wins. (Wins are more of a team stat than goalie stat.)

Jan 21, NHL.png

- Carlsson: 3 games, 0g + 3a
- LaCombe: 3 games, 1g + 0a, but a +1 rating
- Groulx: 2 games, 0g + 0a
- Dostal: 1 game for a record of 0-1-0. Allowed 4 goals in a 2-5 loss to the NYR.

LaCombe spotlight: He has scored 1g + 3a in the past two weeks (7 games), doubling what he had produced in the first 35 games.

Prospect Update, Jan 21: AHL and ECHL

Jan 21, AHL ECHL.png

  • Notable productions for the week
    • RD Zellweger: 2 games, 2g + 1a, but a -2 rating
    • C Gaucher: 2 games, 0g + 2a, and a +1 rating
    • RW Pastujov: Finally returned from injury. 2 games, 0g + 1a
    • G Suchanek: 1 AHL game with a record of 1-0-0
    • G Clang: 2 ECHL games with a record of 1-1-0. With a high Sv% and low GAA, that's a good outing for Clang, who's been struggling at the AHL level.

I hope Zellweger gets games towards the end of the year. He is shaping up to be a monster offensive player

I kind of hope he gets a few games before Minty gets back. Give him a chance to QB a power play and send him back down with time to work on things to get him to the next level. Then maybe a few more at the end to show progression and remind him on why he has to keep up the offseason work.

Woah, you weren't kidding. 6 games with .864 after going .875 with them last year. Yikes.

I guess that's what happens when you draft a goalie with only a 9 game sample size in his draft year.

It’s too bad, but I watched Alexander at rookie camp, and he really almost seemed disengaged. Wonder if he has something going on in his personal life.

Yeah it sucks, I was hopeful for him because he was actually pretty good for his first 10 games or so on last year’s awful Gulls team, but he’s just been awful this year for Tulsa. I thought him and Suchanek would be a great duo down there and when the Gulls called up Suchanek I was hoping he’d be able to put it together and be the regular starter but he’s been way outplayed by Junca, a 25 year old under contract to the Chicago Wolves who’s solidified himself as their starter. Tulsa’s also a pretty decent and likely playoff team so it’s not even like the team just sucks
