Zegras had 5 points in 7 games after coming back from injury, a slow start to the season is a literal non issue.

5 points in 8 games.

I believe in Zegras, but I'm just sharing why Pronman would drop Z a couple of tiers. You cannot ignore his inept offensive production to start the season b/c it's part of Z's season. I didn't mind the lack of scoring b/c Z was still all over the ice in a good way for us.

Again, the prospect media business is booming and Pronman/Wheeler cannot keep up with all the players down to a minute detail, especially when expanded to U23. They need assistants nowadays to be even more accurate.

What they really need is to do (if they care about having high quality prospect content) is emulate what EP does. Have at least four or five prospect writers. Then split them up somewhere along the lines of one who covers US High School, USNTDP, USHL, and NCAA. Another who covers the CHL. One who covers the AHL. And then one who covers Europe, keep Wheeler doing his thing where he focuses a bit more on personal prospect stories. Then have them confer on articles that are going to be an overarching ranking, it’s not possible to track every prospect in the league.

Sam Colangelo (RW, Anaheim Ducks) — Colangelo is a relatively recent second-round pick (2020, No. 36 overall) who is currently plying his trade as a senior at Western Michigan University after transferring from Northeastern last summer. A veteran of the terrific Chicago Steel USHL program (and a member of USA Hockey’s 2021 World Junior squad), the 6’2″ Colangelo has collected 35 goals and 78 points in 92 games over four NCAA seasons with the Broncos and Huskies. And he’s been red-hot of late, posting 12 points in his last seven contests at Western Michigan. If the Ducks can’t come to terms with Colangelo, they should be able to find a suitor for him on the trade market.

At least last year we sort of had an idea of what Thrun and LaCombe were going to do. It's been crickets on Colengelo the whole time. Fully expecting him to go the UFA route. I just hope Verbeek can get something back for him.

Thrun and LaCombe have been having a consistent and improving NCAA career into the junior season. Verbeek tried to sign both, but both wanted to return to their college team. LaCombe said not to worry at the 2022 Dev camp, but Thrun was non-committal.

With Colangelo, he's had a rollercoaster college career. His rookie season, it was marred with long term injury. Then his sophomore season, he bounced back big time. Afterwards, his junior season was a setback (due to coaching and his placement). There wasn't a reason to sign Colangelo last year.

At this year's Dev camp, Colangelo was showing his speed, tenacity, motor, and goal scoring for Verbeek. Transferring to Western Michigan was a great move than worry about politics at Northeaster, his former college team. There's a pathway to the NHL with the Ducks, especially with the lack of top-9 RW scoring at the NHL level. Verbeek can lure him over by starting his ELC by playing a game or two with the Ducks after his collegiate season is over. Playing Colangelo in the NHL after his NCAA is over is Verbeek's best offer.

I don't want to trade Colangelo's rights. I'd like to get him signed b/c he does fit the need of a big PF with soft hands to score at RW.

Honestly, the Ducks are a perfect spot for him. There is a clear path for him to get top 6 minutes in the next year or 2. Especially on the right side.
Yeah, seems like a smart move career wise. Only reason I see him not signing with us is if he has a favorite team he's attached to.

Considering how Verbeek traded for a top-6 scoring forward in Cutter by using a top-pairing RD youth, Colangelo should see that desperation as a great opportunity to make money asap and even more if he can blossom.

This year alone shows that Verbeek is willing to push youths up into the NHL if their talent warrants it. LaCombe was a 4-year starter in the NCAA and is playing the whole season in Anaheim. If Colangelo can score a lot in one season, then he'll make bank. Anaheim presents the best opportunity to make big bank, especially when you're being center by either Carlsson, Mac, or Z.

Get it done, Verbeek!

I’m watching, and while I haven’t watched much of him, but his “lack of” vision/playmaking seems to be extremely overblown.
The only complaint that I have about him so far is that he doesn't appear to play with a ton of urgency. He skates well, he shoots well, he's making some good passes, but he is coming off as a bit lackadaisical with the way he moves. That's obviously not a dealbreaking issue at his age and level, but I'd like to see him push the pace a bit more sometimes, especially because he seems to be a very good skater.

I agree, it looks like he’s just coasting out there a majority of the time.
