Do we still own his rights at the end of this contract?
CapFriendly has our rights expiring by June 2025 but I think it's because they haven't updated the info yet.

Rights for players drafted from the NL are retained for four years which would mean until June 2027 in Dionicio's case. That's also when his contract with Biel ends. I don't know what happens with the rights of players who change league after draft, but I assume it's adjusted.

Rodwin was drafted out of the OHL. If he's not signed by the end of June 2025 he goes back into the draft. The Swiss Ice Hockey Association does have a transfer agreement with the NHL though so he could still sign with the Ducks while signed in Biel

That's an interesting career move. Maybe he wasn't sold that there would be guaranteed ice time in San Diego next year?

It's good he will be going somewhere where he will (conceivably) be given plenty of ice time to develop. He's a much longer development case, so hopefully this works out for both parties.

Pronman released his updated under 23 list:

Carlsson is at 4 in what I think is a higher tier than his draft profile and an admission he got the skating wrong.

Mac: 12
Zegras: 22
Mintyukov: 28 (Big riser since last time)
Gauthier: 46 (drysdale is 48 and a tier lower, for reference)
Olen: 62
Lacombe: 119
Luneau: 133
Gaucher: 151

Later if I'm not beaten I'll post what these guys were at last ranking.

Hope you don't get beaten, I'd like to see that. Remember the 5 Ds.

Don't agree with this part at all, particularly the physicality.

Pronman's previous rankings:

Zegras: 8
Carlsson: 10
McTavish: 15
Gauthier: 36 (Drysdale was 34)
Zellweger: 59
Mintyukov: 61
Gaucher: 142
LaCombe: 153
Luneau: Not listed

Pronman talking about Mintyukov's mobility and strong skating but has his skating graded at average
Pronman’s rating system is stupidly squishy (“bubble” this and “bubble” that) but his skill ratings make no sense and don’t even match his own descriptions. For example, Fantilli has “elite” puck skill in rating and description, but Leo has “high-end” puck skill when he literally says in the blurb below: “He has elite skill.”

I used to enjoy his stuff but it’s overall gone way downhill in quality

The prospect media sharing business has blossomed. There's a lot of cut and pasting going on for years, which also includes Wheeler. They may need assistants to break up the coverage of prospects so that Pronman/Wheeler can review quickly to find consistency.

I find the inconsistency in potential vs injury. Drysdale was downgraded due to his injury issues, which doesn't make sense if you're ranking based on talent. Bowen Byram has had injury issues too.

Since Dec 17, Hvidston scored 6g + 7a = 13 pts (1.63 ppg) in eight games and a +9 rating.

- Sidorov: Played 3 games, scored 1g +4a

- Warren: Played 3 games, scored 1g + 1a and a +6 rating

- Colangelo: Played 2 games, 1g + 2a

- Callow: Played 2 games, 1a

- Kukkonen: Played 2 games, finally scored a goal!

- Cutter: Played 2 games, 1g + 2a, and a +2 rating

He said in interviews he's gonna turn pro and play wherever the Ducks want him to. So I assume he talked about this with the Ducks. Also, he can still sign with the Ducks and play for San Diego. In fact, Dionicio really wanted to play for San Diego this season. He just can't do it because he got traded to the team hosting the Memorial Cup.

Prospect Update, Jan 15: Europe and NHL

Jan 15, Europe.png

- Sundsvik: Played 2 games, 1g + 1a, and a +1 rating
Since Dec 17th: 9 games, 3g + 3a = 6 pts (0.67 ppg) and -1 rating
Who knew there was offensive pop in Sundsvik?!

- Buteyets: Back in the VHL. Played 2 games. Sv% and GAA stayed the same. Record: 1-1-0.

- Clara: Played 2 games. Improved Sv% ( +0.005) and GAA (-0.09). Record: 2-0-0

Jan 15, NHL.png

- Lacombe: Played 4 games, 3a and +0 rating (that's an improvement!)

- Carlsson: Returned to play in yesterday's win against the Panthers.

- Groulx: Played in 2 games

- Dostal: Played in 3 games. Same Sv %. Record: 1-1-0 (came in relief in the 3rd period)

Luneau new entry

I put it in excel to make it easier to compare the two U23 rankings.

Amazing how a 13 game sample size can move Zegras down two tiers.
Exactly my thoughts, ha. Besides, he was looking decent, a bit unlucky with his chances but improved in other areas of the game - he's sort of reinventing himself. And I think team was playing worse with him out.

Well, it's the same writer that had him with average hands in the first place. So... gotta understand these assesments (also for other players) are incredibly meaningless. They're just to read and discuss opinions with others. They're far from source of truth

Probably b/c the new coaching staff shutdown the offensive creativity away from Z.

Z's production
2021-22: 61 pts in 75 games (0.81 ppg rate)
2022-23: 65 pts in 81 games (0.80 ppg rate)
2023-24: 7 pts in 20 games (0.35 ppg rate)

That's a significant concern. Talent is still there, but stifled under a new regime. The drop in tiers still has Z labeled as a top line player.

Just for perspective...

Carlsson's production
2023-24: 15 pts in 25 games (0.60 ppg rate) as an 18-year old.

Zegras had 5 points in 7 games after coming back from injury, a slow start to the season is a literal non issue.
